T here w as once upon a tim e a young
lion who often w ent out in th e fields
and w atched th e larg er lions play
baseball, and he often th o u g h t how
happy he w ould be if he w as only big
enough to tak e p a rt in th eir games.
Well, he grew and grew , and a fte r
aw hile It seem ed to him th a t he w as of
baseball size, and he decided to begin
to play. Now, it happened th a t this
young lion's principal fa u lt wTas th at
he w as lazy, and w hen he got to th in k
ing about how m uch ru nning around
he would have to do as a baseball
p layer he alm ost becam e discouraged.
A fter some tim e sp en t in thinking
this over he determ ined, how ever, to
tiy the gam e anyw ay.
" I ’ll go off to the cocoanut tree now
and get a ball,” said he to lilm self, and
off he w en t to w here th e tall trees rose
from the sandy soil of the plain.
