About 20 cases o f butter are going out each week from the Buxton and Banks creameries. Requiem high mass was celebrated Monday morning at 9 o’clock at the Church of the Visitation, Verboort, by Very Rev. L. Verhaag, In memory of the late Pope, His Holiness, I>eo XIII. Attendance, considering the busy sea son, was large and a touching tribute of respect to the dead pontiff. Mr. Hamblin, of Buxton, Is rem ov ing his shingle mill to the Nehalem and will be ready for business in about six weeks. Roy Cornelius, after a long illness with malarial fever, is again able to be about. William Her, o f Dayton, Is in town visiting his brother-in-law, Harry Wee cott | Mr. and Mrs. Rodeli Matteson, of Scoggins Valley, visited the Grove Thursday. At Banks hall, Saturday evening, August 8, the ladies o f Lewis and Clark grange will give a basket social and dance. Everybody invited, good time, good supper. George Dooley, o f Banks, has bought a new 40-60 threshing machine, one of the largest in the country. H e will begin work this week. Five Dollars Reward.— For informa tion leading to recovery o f brown mare four years old, weight about 900, brand ed “ FD” on left shoulder, with halter and rope when last seen. The Banks grange meeting and pic nic Saturday was attended by about 75 members of I^ewis and Clark grange No. 328, meeting at the A. O. U. W . hall. A splendid dinner was served; then came initiation o f new members, an Interesting program by young folks and children, and a dance in the even ing. The occasion was enjoyed by all. Editor L. A. lo n g , o f the Hillsboro Argus, is enjoying a visit from his mother, whom he had not seen in 20 years. She arrived Sunday morn ing, and he is already laying plans to Induce her to dispose of the fine farm she owns In Wisconsin and take up her home In Washington county. John Bailey, of Green mountain, and Phil. Buxton have lost a number o f cows lately from a peculiar stom ach trouble, the former losing seven and the latter ten. As a precaution the state veterinarian has been notified but it is thought the cattle may have eaten some poisonous weed, larkspur being suggested as possibly the cause of the trouble. Some, however, insist that It is a disease, and call at tention to the bloody sweat o f the afflicted cows.
