In 1S61 he ; moved to St C harles, Illin o is, and en gaged in the furniture business. In the spring o f 1854 he enlisted in the arm y j and was discharged in the winter o f the same year. In 1^67 he moved to Oregon with his fam ily m aking the jou rn ey by w ater by way o f the Isthm us o f Fan.>ma and arrivin g in W ashington county Ju ly 4, 1867. There he settled on a farm where the town o f D illey is now located. In 1869 he sold his farm and moved to Forest Grove. E ig h t years later he returned to D illey and engaged in the m ercantile business and w hile there lost his wife, June 19, 1879. Mr. H yde re turned to Forest G rove and Ju n e 24, 1895 m arried L yd ia A. M cFarlan d who survives him. T here are four children livin g. Mrs. Je n n ie Bronson, Sacra- m eii'o, Cal., E . A. H yd e, Forest Grove, Oregon, Mrs. M ay Buxton, Buxton, Or., Mrs. H attie M. Pease, Placer. Or.
