While gold and silver monopolize politics, one should remember that nature has not left Oregon destitute of either of these precious metals, though the yellow predominates, and perhaps that may be given as the reason why Oregon will cast her vote for McKinley in Novem ber. In Douglas, Coos, Curry, Jose phine and Jackson counties, gold have been found in the sands of al most all the streams, and placer mining has been carried on for up wards of thirty years. Gold quartz ledges are also being worked and over $30,000,000 has been taken out from Southern Oregon since the discovery in 1851. In the moun tain region of Clackamas, Marion, Linn and Lane are many good prospects, but yet undeveloped. Along the Molallu and Clacka mas rivers are lands rich in gold and silver, but not yet worked. The Blue Mountains region of Kast- ero Oregon has gold placer mining and gold and silver quartz. Nine- tenths of Oregon’s gold is the pro duct of these mines. Along the coast are numerous points where flour gold is found and as soon as an inexpensive means of separat ing it trom the accompanying sand -like iron pyrites is discovered the treasury reserve cau be largely replenished from these. Altogether about two and a quarter millions is annually added to the gold supply from this state. J. C. C L A R K , Drugd ft Fortune In Friz« 1 0 C a ta rrh C u red . kept hot.
