Close to the Grove, o n ly five m iles by
an excellent road, is th e b eau tifu l Scog­

After a drive lengthened con sid erab ly
by frequent stops to look at th e b e au ti­
ful scenery surrounding, G eo. II. T e m ­
ple's residence, the d estin ation , was
reached. The first view of the grounds
allows a giant cherry tree, tw e n ty-e igh t
inches in diameter, planted n early thirty-
years ago.
Mr. Temple’s farm of nearly a thous­
and acres is well located and kept in fine
condition. On the farm is a herd of pun
blooded red polled cattle, u Hock of peu-
fowls, one old peacock strutted around
displaying feathers six feet long, and u
large flock of chickens, descended from
three Hamburgu, brought from Colum­
bus, Ohio.
The house was nicely
shaded and vines festooned themselves
over the porch. Here was a large Japan­
e s e lilly with four fragrant white hlus-
soms ami opening buds promising more.
To one from Purest Grove a peculiar at­
traction is the pure and cool mountain
spring water brought in by pipe.
After looking around a little and ad­
miring the many conveniences with
wnicli Mr. Temple has surrounded him­
self the party went on to the school
house, distant a pleasant five minutes I
walk. Though comfortable, the building
is not prepossessing and looking at it |
one fears lest its time worn timbers, ap
parently so aged, may not give way and
precipitate the heavy bell on those lie-
low.
The furniture within is modern
and seats alamt seventy scholars. The
old structure will likely lie replaced be­
fore long.
Church services have been held in the
S c h o o l house for some time and a church
ia to be put up in the fall. Mr. Saine
and Mr. Temple have offered to give
aites free. The church will tie Presby­
terian and a Sunday school and Chris
tian Endeavor society of that faith are
now flourishing.
