It is with sinoere sympathy I try
to write particulars of trie sad
death of tbe young man, Robert
Eastland, at this place on the af
ternoon of Deo. 2. This place has
a series of switch tracks in order to
take the trains over the mountains,
a heigh th of 600 or 600 feet, not
having yet got thr tunnel finished
Tbe freight train on which ha was
riding, having reached the summit
and started down, when about half
way down the bill tbe engine be
came unmanageable and ran away.
The train crew all bat on brake-
nan, Jjmped pit. He and Robert
were called to nrr.p, but they eith
er did not bear qgyild not jump.

quite dead, lying some 40 or 60 feet
