When I broke the news to Bill
¡that he had been drafted to make
some household repairs . . . he took
it like a husband. He pleaded aches
and pains, and tried to put it off.
‘‘ Not today you don’t m’lord,” I
Intoned. “ And for a • acre you’re
going to finish
- you
start. Yes, todu;
> fin
isher.”
And he was.
After trying in vain for months
to get our wood floors to the same
glossy bright
ness the ads
always show I
finally gave up
and went to a
lumber dealer
for some tips.
He told me the
floors probab
ly needed re-“
finishing and
g a v e me a
pamphlet on the methods involved.
“ This will help you plan the
job more completely, Mrs. Riley”
he smiled. “ If there’s anything else
I can do, please let me know.”
Nice fella.
According to this brochure it
was wise to tackle our particular
floor as a do-it-yourself project.
The booklet and I, not Bill, de
cided that.
I had also learned from the deal
er that the chemical corporation
Pierce and Stevena, who publish
the pamphlet, also produce several
products for wood floor mainte
nance. What sold me on them was
the fact they didn’t push their
products in the manual at all . . .
but gave objective and detailed
idvice about floor finishing, period.
Any company that can afford
:o do that must have confidence in
its merchandise” I told myself. So,
I got some Fabulon (the finish)
and the job waa one-tenth over,
The other nine-teaths was getting
Bill to work!
, The job itself, as it turned out, ,
wasn’t tough at all; and the floors
look wonderful. I suspect Bill sort
of got a kick out o f doing it, but of
course he’d never tell me that! I
guess a man is just a mar.!
f I’m sure glad we had that manu
al, though. Anyone planning to da
over floors should get s copy. II
esye inside you can send a dime ta
the company (they’re In Buffalo,
f - Y.) and get a copy, if your
pamt, hardware er lumber dealer
doesn’t have any.
