Junior High School Election Issues
Explained by School Board Association
As this weeks report o f
the
Publicity Committee
of the
Association o f School Boards is
being assembled,
the
high
school students are still sitting
on the floors and stairway dur-
ing the lunch hour They ore no
longer permitted to
use the
dressing rooms as a lunch room
because of an objection by the
county school
health depart
ment. The cafeteria
has long
since been turned into tempor
ary class rooms.
What would
the proper facilities cost
you
and me tax wise?
I f w e bonded ourselves close
to the maximum o f our bonding
capacity for a new high school
building, our taxes would
be
increased approximately $ 5.91
per $1000 of assessed valuation,
That means to illustrate, that if
your assessed
valuation was
$2000 last year, and the assess-
ed valuation stayed the same
this coming year,
your
rax
would be increased $11 82 next
year over the amount you paid
this last year. This does not take
into conside-ation any m illage
increase for administration and
operation o f the new facilities.
It would be difficult to antici
pate the exact cost o f running
both Junior high
and
high
school facilities.
The present
high school is costing the dis
trict 19.9 mills and w e cannot
conceive of the combined Jun-
ior and High school
milleage
costing more
than 30 mills,
which would
be practically
offset by a decrease in milleage
in the grade school
distrlcts-
since they would be relieved of
the 7th and 8th grades-
It would seem that
as the
second richest district in
the
county, it would be in the pub
lic interest to construct
such
needed facilities before the r e
organization program is
com
pleted and the revenue w e now
enjoy from the pubic utilities Is
equalized thru out the county.
Information brochures
are
now available from the
corn-
mittee members and they w ill
be distributed at various com
munity meetings - or can
be
obtained from committee mem-
bers, whose names and address-
es are listed below:
Ernest Kammeyer,
Estacada;
Lloyd Stephens, Eagle Creek;
Louis Coffin, Barton
Editor’s Note: Because of
the importance o f the coming
election on the
Junior high
school, anyone who has
any
question or challenge to this un
dertaking is invited to address
it to the

long, w e’ll
publish it, together
with an
answer in next w eek’s paper.
