A sleek, mahogany-roan Shorthorn steer, P. S. Troubador, owned
by Pennsylvania State College, was made grand champion over all
beef breeds at the 1956 International Live Stock Exposition in Chi
cago. Here he is eating from the huge silver trophy held by Herman
Purdy, head of the Pennsylvania State Beef Cattle department. In
the background are Shorthorn Lassie Queens, dressed in Scottish
kilts, representing 11 states and the province of Ontario, Canada.
Left to right are: Ann Bullock, Missouri; Annette Coffee, Okla
homa; Shirley Jean Lunstra, Minnesota; Bonigail Bivin, Illinois;
Ann Heckendorf, Colorado; Sheila Anderson, Canada; Mildred Hix,
Tennessee; Marilyn Miller, Wisconsin; Barbara Joyce Warner,
Nebraska; Anne Shannon, Mississippi; Marianne Huffman, Ohio;
Miss Betty Royon, Vice President of Acadia Farms, Northfield,
Ohio, owned by Cyrus Eaton, chairman of the board of the Chesa
peake and Ohio Railroad, and Dick Sour, Penn. State Herdsman.
Acadia Farms was the breeder of the steer. It sold for an all-time
high of $20.50 per pound to the Greenbriar Hotel, White Sulphur
Springs, West Virginia.
