NEW SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST
FITTIN G CEREMONIES
Last Saturday, December 6 the
new Seventh-day Adventist church a
Estacada was dedicated with appro,
priate ceremonies with an attendance
o f over 200 people.
Principal speaker on the program
was Elder Armstrong president o.
the eastern division. The dedication
p iayer was presented by Elder Ander
son, president o f the Oregon confer
ence. There were also special musi
cal numbers on the program.
History of the Church
Following is a history o f the Esta
cada Seventh-Day Adventist church
as presented at the dedication cere
The first beginning was a home
Sabbath school conducted in upper
Garfield, also one at Eagle Creek
from the yeais 1920 to 1932. Then
Elder J. J. Rippey rented the Odd
Fellow halt in Estacada and held
some well attended meetings with Mr.
Tompkins as song leader. Elder R ip
pey baptized around 22 members and
with others who had moved into the
community he organized the first
Seventh Day Adventist church with
30 members. The Tracy school house
was bought fo r a m eeting place.
As time went on the church grew
so that the Sabbath school member
ship reached 92. This made the Tra_
cy school too small to take care o f
the children properly so it was decid
ed to build a church in Estacada,
more centraly located.
W A T E R HIGH IN
C LA C K A M A S RIVER
The Clackamas river rose to its
highest level in several years with
the advent o f last weeks heavy rains.
The rainstorms in the Clackamas
gorge above Estacada w ere even
more severe than those in the city
and immediate vicinity .The river
nearly reached the flood stage at
some points on the road particularly
at South Foik. The bridge at South
Fork which was built and was being
used by the Oregon City water shed
administration was completely de
molished by floating debris. This de
bris aided and propelled by the ter
rific force o f the raging waters very
shortly accomplished the total de
struction o f the bridge. Some dam
age was also inflicted upon the high
way between Estacada and Three
Links by the recent rains. Some mud
slides and one or two small rock
slides loosened by the rain descended
upon the road, in like manner hun
dreds o f boulders large and small
crashed onto the road.
