The controversy between the West
Coast Telephone company and the
newly formed Sandy Telephone com­
pany became a court battle last week
when the former filed suit to pre
vent the latter from exercising its
franchise to conduct a telephone bu­
siness in Sandy and vicinity The
plaintiff asks that the franchise bo
turned over to it. F. L. Christensen
is also named a defendant on the
ground that he was employed as the
Sandy agent of the plaintiff when hd ’
organized the new company, at a time
it is stated when he should habe __
been devoting his entire time to the i[S

pany.

tive of the Mt. Hood Winter sports
association, announcement that ar­
rangements for the free outdoor mo

The new Gresham baseball team,
heading the inter-state league has
changed its name to the Sandy Mer­
chants nine and ‘Ort’ Sutton, Port­
land manager announces the first
game will be next Sunday at Park-
dale and the first home game will ho
here Sunday, May 16 at the high
school athletic field.
The old horsemen of two years
ago entering the nine are Tom Scales,
Ed Schmitz, John Williams, and Curt
Bacon will bo captain. Principal Sim
mons of Bull Run will also play.
Sutton announces that Chuck
Woehlert will be on the mound for
the new team. The Sandy chamber is
also backing the new team.

The membership drive of the San­
dy Sportsmen’s association has been
won by team number one consisting
of Bob Murray, Peter McVarden, Ar­
thur Phelps and H. R. Steffenson.
this team secured 37 new members of
the 48 new members added during
the drive.
The other two teams in the mem­
bership drive will entertain the win­
ning team and also all other member
of the association at a dinner to hi
held at Dodge park the first Tuesda)
in June. Members of the two losing
teams are: B. M Alt, Lyle Seaman,
Fred Proctor, Earl Chamberlain, C
M. Coon, R. S. Smith, Dale Stewait
and Allen Tack.
The association now has a mem
hership of 65. The association wa.-
started in 1933 and now owns proper
ty and equipment valued at about
$1500. Their liabilities total abou
$100 which they expect to pay off
m the near future.

Land is being cleared for the nrw
fish hatchery at the Big Sandy dam,
It has been 16 years since a hatch­
ery was operated on the Big Sandy
and the old building used for that
purpose is in too bad a state of re­
pair for further use. Building mater­
ial is being hauled from Boring fur
the construction of a new hatchery.
The new hatchery will have a ca­
pacity of two million. Mr. Greer of \
