Church Announcements
Estacada Christian Church
“ Comfort for God’s People," is the
Bible school leseson for Lord's Day
morning. The lesson text is taken
from the book of Isaiah, chapter 40,
and was written during a time of
great sorrow, when the people o f Is
rael had an especial need for reas
surance and words o f comfort. It
tells o f one who will redeem and will
speak comfort to Zion.
It is no use to deny that we live in
a world of trouble, sorrow and pain.
While the words o f sympathy and
comfort from kind friends help one
in distress wonderfully, it must be
remembered that such help, much as
it is appreciated, is very limited in
deed. Kind friends can lift only a
very small portion of the load, for
they, themselves, are also burdened,
therefore the need o f a comforter
whose strength is unfailing and whose
grace is sufficient. Jesus is just such
a one. There is no disappointment
to those who lean upon Him.
The 11 o ’clock sermon message will
be “ The Pilgrimage of Faith.”
The
great need of the world today is for
a virile faith, a faith that will pro
duce action. This was the faith of
Abraham. “ By faith Abraham, when
he was called, obeyed to go out unto
a place which he was to receive for
an inheritance; and he went out, not
knowing whither he went. . . For he
looked for a city which hath founda
tions, whose builder and maker is
God.” This is faith acting. It worked
in the time o f Father Abraham and
it will work today.
Christian Endeavor at 6:30. The
topic is, “ The Wonders o f the Bible.”
Paul Beck will be leader; Miss Bessie
Andersen is president, and Mrs. Kath
leen Akins song leader. God has re
vealed himself in two wonderful way.,
through nature and through the
Bible. The more a man learns of
nature, the more convinced he be
comes o f a God o f order, beauty and
law— law that one cannot violate in
the least without the offender paying
full penalty. The God o f nature is
the God o f the Bible. In the Bible
we see not only His wonderful order
beauty and law, but also His won
derful mercy.
Someone has said:
“ When I come before God, I don’t
want justice, I want mercy. If I get
justice I stand condemned, for I
have violated God's law, but if I can
obtain mercy, that means pardon.”
The Endeavorers invite you to their
meeting. Come and discuss the won
ders o f God’s Book with them.—
Hugh Foster, Pastor.

E. R. D. Hollensted, Minister.

Sandy Lutheran Church
In every organization, invariably,
there are delinquents. Sad to say,
this also is true o f church member
ship. In every church we find peo
ple who are miles away from their
own church, or rather the church in
which they once held membership,
and which they once supported, both
7.00
morally
and financially. Such long
distance membership is on the in
crease rather than on the decrease.
They need the church as much as the
church needs them. If the church
needs you, and you need the church,
why is it not getting you? In spite
of all your spasmodic efforts to go
back to the church for communions
and, perhaps, a few times between,
you are not giving her your honest
support.
Pulling a church is like pulling a
wagon the farther you get away
from the load the less you pull.
Some are so far away from the pole
that their traces have not been up
off the ground for years. They are
eating grass while others are pulling.
English services next Sunday at
the usual hour, 10:39 a. m. You are
welcome.— F. T. Shoen, Pastor.

The New BUSTER B R O W N SHOES for Boys and

There is a story told o f a great

she knew who it was. “ No," said
the child, “ it may be some big man;
I don’t know.”
The sculptor knew he had failed
and falling on his knees in sorrow, he
asked the Lord to help him try again.
Years longer he worked and prayed
and prayed, and at last called a child
of the household. “ Do you know who

it is?” he asked her.
She looked upon the marble face
for a moment, and with tears stream - i i m i i i i i i i i i m i m i i i H i i i i i i i i i i i i m i i i i i m i i i M i i i i i i i i i i i i m i m i i m i i i i i i i m i i i i m i m m i
ing down her face, cried out, “ It is
the One who said ‘Come unto Me’.”
The sculptor knew he had caught
in his marble something of the divine
likeness he had sought for.
If we are Christians it ought to be
possible for all to see in us some re
semblance to Christ. They should be
able to point to our patience, our lov
ingness, our ready forgiveness, our
faithfulness, and say “ That is Christ
in him.”
We could never bring out the like
ness alone; but we may develop it
surely, so that, though we see it not,
our friends cannot fail to recognize
His likeness. We wish you would in
terest yourselves to the extent that
you would like to hear both sermons
next Sunday. Both will be helpful.
At 11 o ’clock the subject will be “ The
Life With Men” and at 7:30, the sub
