a party Thursday, in honor o f Dick's
fourth birthday. Several little friends
were present, including Johnnie
Theresa, Christine and Elmer Teu
seher, Joyce Ganger, Bobby Ganger.
Assisting the hostess were Mrs. Oren
and Mrs. Ralph Ganger, Mrs. Teu
seher and Mrs. James Dixon.

Patrick decorations were used. Brick
ice cream with shamrock center, cake
and sandwiches were served.

“ The Night Bird,” which will be
the feature attraction at the Liberty
Theatre next Wednesday night, a
special show being given in co-oper
ation with a committee from the Odd
Fellows lodge o f Estacada, is the
most hilarious Reginald Denny com
edy seen yet— and that is saying a
lot about this great comedian’s pro
duction when you remember “ Good
Morning, Judge,” and a few others.
This is an entirely new story. It
is about a prize fighter and his pri
vate iife and how his manager in
sists that he indulge in a few night
excursions so that the public will
like him better and go to see him
fight.
Betsy Lee, a new discovery, has
the feminine lead and plays it with
the grace o f a veteran. She is very
beautiful. In fact there are three
beautiful girls in the cast as well as
hundreds o f the pick of Hollywood's
atmosphere players. The other two
girls are Corliss Palmer and Jocelyn
Lee. They add much to the general
air o f hilarity.
The photoplay, a fast moving story
of the prize ring and New York’s
night life, was adapted from a story
by Frederick and Fanny Hatton.

Mrs. Anna Ward, 65, was buried at
Sandy cemetery Saturday.
She is
survived by her husband,

Ward. Mr. and Mrs. Ward moved
on a place two miles south o f Boring
three months ago from Eastern Ore
gon. Mrs. Ward passed from pneu
monia, following an attack o f the
flu. The Gates funeral directors of
Gresham were in charge o f the burial
arrangements.
Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Russell were
callers at the home of Mrs. J. M. C.
Miller in Sandy recently.
Mrs. O. W. Boring and Mrs. L. H.
Mallicoat have been busy drilling the
children for the Easter program at
the church next Sunday morning.
Charlie Young, his wife and three
children have moved from Gresham
into one of the Telford houses. Mr.
Young will be employed in the H. H.
Johnson wood camp.
A good crowd is expected to see
the Orient Campfire girls’ play at
the I. O. 0. F. hall here March 29.

SANDY OPERETTA PROVES
A SPLENDID SUCCESS
The Sandy Union high school Glee
Club operetta was a delightful aifair
Friday night. The setting was bril
liant, the music tuneful. Miss Edith
Shell, director, received many com
pliments over the success o f the oper
etta, and Dorothy Bruns, u 13-year-
old freshman, played the score with
splendid finish. The high school or
chestra played several numbers, di
rected by Mrs. Maud Holt, delighting
the audience.
Winnifred Glockner
was at the piano. The receipts were
5110. At the close, Miss Shell was
presented with flowers by the mem
bers o f the Glee (Tub. Jaydene Nel
son was “ Cherry Blossom,” and sang
her part well; Clarence Eri pleased
as Kokcmn, owner o f a tea garden;
Ethel Irvin, the adoring lover of
Cherry Blossom, also did her part
well, as did the following in the lead
ing cast: Naomi Child, Harry Rad
ford. Henry Weisenfluh, Margaret
Peterson and Glenn Heaeock. The
geisha girls’ chorus was lovely, the
girls being very pretty in their color
ful costumes, and their singing was
excellent.
The Americans visiting
Japan were also fine. Over 30 took
part.

VIOLA, March 28.— (Special).—
The P. T. A. will meet at the church
Friday evening, March 28. There is
to be a play given by Grandpa Bul
ger and some children from Portland.
The refreshments will be free and
no admission charge will be made,
but the ladies have a fine quilt they
expect to sell that evening. Every
one is invited to come and enjoy a
pleasant evening.
John Randolph has been ill the
past week, but is now improving. J.
H. Sevier is also improving from an
eight-week siege o f flu.
Miss Claudia Stone spent the week
end with her mother, Mrs. C. B.
Stone, and Grandpa Hamilton and
other relatives.
She is attending
school in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Graham and
their son, William Graham, made a
trip to Salem Sunday to visit with
their daughter and sister Janett.
Bob Mattoon, who is taking treat
ments at the Veterans' hospital in
Portland, spent the week end at his
home here.
Mrs. M. L. Sevier was a visitor
to Estacada Tuesday.
Mrs. Eldon Lankins spent a few
days last week with her sister, Mrs.
Emery Powers, and also visited with
her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Evanson
o f Redlands.
Bobby Orr, 5, o f Muncie. Ind., who
had his mother write a message to
King George, wishing for his recov
ery, has received a letter o f acknow
ledgement from the King.
