If one may judge by his many utterances on the sub
ject, President Hoover will be found during his adminis
tration to be strongly determined to preserve equality of
opportunity, and to encourage private initiative in busi
ness and industry, as distinguished from paternalistic and
Socialistic policies.
He will be equally determined that business and in
dustry shall obey the law, and that reasonable regulation
of their activities shall be enforced. In his inaugural ad
dress he said:
"The election has again confirmed the determination
of the American people that regulation of private enter
prise and not government ownership is the course rightly
to be pursued in our relation to business."
Fortunately for the country at large, honest business
and industry have nothing to fear from the newr adminis
tration. Regardless of political views- as patriotic Amer
icans we can unreservedly commend the attitude of Mr.
Hoover in this vital matter.

AN A C T IV E CLUB
Everyone in Estacada must be glad to know that
there is one organization in the city that accomplishes
things and doesn’t make an awful lot of noise about it,
either. We refer to the Garden club, which is composed
of a large number of ladies of the community, and who
have recently completed planting trees on Main street
north to the Wade Filling station.
The club, Mi's. A. H. Fasel, president, is doing every
thing it possibly can to beautify the town, and it is to be
commended, and should have the support and co-opera
tion of every citizen of Estacada.

Those who attended the dedication
couldn't help but notice the fact that
the American Legion was the one out-
standing organization o f ex-service
men. Several different veteran or-
ganizations were represented, but it
was truly a Legion event. Neverthe
less. the hospital is for all veterans
o f all wars, and each are accorded the
same use of the fine new hospital.
