OREGON SCENERY AN ASSET
No section of the country, or the world, can compare
with Oregon’s wonderful mountain scenery. The beauti
ful mountains and great waterfalls captivate everyone.
But in order that we, ourselves, may fully enjoy its mar
velous beauty to the fullest extent, it is necessary that it
be made possible to view it at close hand, by the develop
ment of highways.
Of dual importance to the people of our own state is
the construction of a good highway connecting at Mo-
lalla with the proposed Cascade route and the Loop high
way at Sandy. This scenic route would open to develop
ment some of the finest farm land in the state-
Last fall a Portland paper recommended as a Sunday
motor trip the Estacada Loop. On that particular day
hundreds of cars made the trip. With the further devel
opment of our local highway system, dozens of such trips
would be possible. Tourists visiting Portland and the
Northwest would enjoy one-day trips, and thousands of
people would eventually be sold on Oregon.
Yes, Oregon sceneiy is one of the state’s greatest as
sets, but it is not being capitalized to any great extent.
Our own people are not sufficiently sold on it.

Springwater community probably will again be the
only one in Eastern Clackamas county to hold a fair this
year. The annual fair is a big event for Springwater and
a similar fail1 w ould be a good thing for every community
in the county, to be held just before the county fair. It
seems that farmers’ organizations are overlooking their
best bet to really help themselves and their county and
state.
----------oOo----------
The farmer who keeps a few sheep, a few cows, a
few hogs ami a few hens and grows a few spuds, a few
berries, a few prunes, a few apples, some hay and some
grain, along with a good garden doesn’t have to worry an
awful lot about the price of the things he needs to buy or
has to sell.
----------oOo----------
Oregon City’s “ round-up" show for July Fourth will
have good band music. The management has seen to this
by employing the best band in the countv to supply it. A
deal was made with the Estacada Band Monday night for
their services three days, July 3, 4 and 5.
----------oOo----------
Indications are that there will be considerable build
ing undertaken in the Estacada Lake district this summer.
Sandy district, and the communities along the Loop high
way up the mountains will probably see more building ac
tivity this summer than ever before.
----------oOo----------
Abraham Lincoln’s famous quotation may be slightly
changed to apply to Estacada schools— You can please all
the people some o f the time, and some of the people all
the time, but you can’t please all the people all the time.

Last year this post received a cita
tion from the national commander for
its membership record, also one from
the state commander. It's a boost for
the post and for the community to
announce that we have gone over
the top.
*
* • •
The post quota for this year is 75
members. Some o f the fellows said
it was impossible at the time the
state officers visited in Estacada. It
is not impossible. In this week's pa
per are the names of 84 World war
vets, and we know there are more in
Eastern Clackamas county.

Either o f you have the opportunity

Old style banks were places where only the wealthy
were welcome. The cold, cheerless atmosphere was
considered the right way to impress the public with
the dignity of a bank.
•
Boys, the post has come up to the
record made last year, with 58 mem
bers. Wm. Graham, V. L. Johnson
and A. H. Still have each paid up
since last week’s edition of the paper.
Now we need at least one more be
fore the commanders' and adjutants'
conference in Portland next Monday.
We must report, at that time, Carl
Douglass post over the top.

Grover Kiggins says he hasn’t been

he’s not going for another year, yet.
It’s safe now, Grov, there’s almost a
new police force by this time.
During the show a few nights ago
a fellow walkpd up to the door and
asked Bill Perry if G. E. Parks was
inside. “ I ’ll look and see,” replied
Bill. He stuck his head inside the
door for a moment and said, “ No,
he’s not here.” “ How can you tell
in the dark by just looking inside?’
“ There’s only one bald head in the
house, and that’s Atlee Erickson,” re
