As a national holiday it is perhaps second only to the Fourth o f July, while as a matter o f fact it is probably an anniversary o f even higher importance, because with- out a Washington the struggling colonies might not havq made the Declaration o f Independence effy?ctive. Although much that is legendary has been associated with the life o f Washington, due principally to the zeal o f Parson Weems, his early biographer, the main facts of his inestimable service stand unimpeached, and his fame takes on added luster with the years. Leading a poorly trained, ill-equipped and sometimes mutinous army, Washington kept aflame the fires o f pa A Litt le T ru th and a Little Hokum triotism when a less determined and less capable comman der might have given up in despair. W hile aid from Dr. w. w. Mr. Morton has been with che Frigidaire corporation, Portland, since February 3, 1928, and within a short period after coming into the or ganization forged to top place and has maintained that position almost without exception each month since.” Many o f you know Tom. The larger the list o f subscribers in Eagle Creek district, for instance, the more valuable the News can be to Eagle Creek. The grange, the school, the dif- ferent community organizations all need publicity on cer tain occasions. I f a notice is published o f an entertain ment at the school house, but few families in that entire district will fail to learn about it in the columns o f the News. A special program at the church is called to the attention o f practically all the people of the district sur rounding, when without such publicity, it is likely that many o f the people would never know what was going on, or had been planned. The News wants to serve every community in Eastern Clackamas county, in an impartial manner. It is realized that there is lots o f room for improving the service, and the service o f the past has depended upon the co-opera- tion extended by the people, as it must depend in the fu- ture. However, it is pure selfishness for any one com- munity to desire to be given prominence over another sec- tion o f the district. Candidates in the News’ circulation contest report a few in the Estacada district who resent the space given other communities in the News territory.
