HELEN SCHWARTZ AND
RICHARD SUCKOW MARRIED
Hi SANDY-ESTAGADA
BURBONS TO INVADE EASTERN
CLACKAMAS TUESDAY AND
THURSDAY NIGHTS
It was a pretty wedding ceremony
that united Miss Helen Schwartz and
Mr. Richard Suckow in marriage Sat
urday night at the Sandy Lutheran
church. Rev. F. T. Schoen reading
the
impressive
ceremony.
Mrs.
Schoen played the wedding march.
Attendants were sisters o f the bride,
Misses Ella and Anna Schwartz. Mil-
ton Suckow, a brother, and Albert
Capen, a cousin, attended the groom.
The pretty flower girl was Tillie Ann
Wewer and little Paul Remus was
ring bearer. The bride’s father gave
her away.
The bride wore white crepe satin
with long veil, her attendants, dressed
alike, were gowned in pink crepe and
the bride and the latter carired flow
ers. The church was beautifully dec
orated with autumn leaves. After
tbe ceremony, 80 guests assembled at
the home o f Mr. and Mrs. D.
Schwartz, where a lovely wedding
dinner was served. Many handsome
gifts were presented to the couple.
Mr. and Mrs. Suckow are away for
several days on their honeymoon
trip.
Two political meetings are to be
held in Eastern Clackamas county by
the county central committee of the

CONDITIONS OF ESTACADA
WATER SYSTEM EXPLAINED
(NOTE— This is the first of a series
o f articles on the Estaeada water
system. It is not the purpose to crit
icise anyone, but simply a statement
o f facts with the idea of bringing
about a satisfactory solution o f the
problem.— Editor).
An adequate, wholesome water
supply for the town o f Estaeada is
necessary for the future growth of
the city and community. Water is an
important factor in the building of
any town. It is important that pre
parations be made for adequate fire
protection, that a supply o f water be
maintained during the summer for
the beautification o f t h e city,
and, most important of all, that the
health o f tlfe community be safe
guarded.
That the present water system
doeB not fulfil these requirements is
apparent to all goes without saying.
„Recent analysis o f the city water
were far from satisfactory, so far as
the purity of the water is concerned.
The shortage o f water for shrubs
and lawns during the hot part o f the
last summer has not been forgotten,
and there is. a general sentiment for
a greater water supply before the
next summer drouth.
The present water works system
was installed several years ago, and
is adequate during the rainy season
as to the amount available. In fact,
at tha present time there is consider
able overflow from the reservoir.
If the capacity o f the reservoir was
increased to several times what it is
at present, it might be possible to
store up a head o f water that would
suffice during the dry months, but
such an arrangement would be a
temporary one.

possible to keep it, so far as the city
has control.
The small dam is as free of filth as
it can be kept at this time o f the
year, the water runs through two
screens before entering the pipe line
and is properly covered to keep out
foliage, insects, and the like.
The pipe line is directly connected
with the city mains, and only the
overflow, or the amount above pres
ent requirements, goes into the res
ervoir. When more water is needed
than flows from the source, then the
reserve is turned into the mains.
The water now is clear, and if
analysized would probably indicate
freedom from anything really dan-
crous to human health. But, after
a trip up stream, above the intake,
the writer would not. care to drink
city water without first boiling it.
The city o f Estaeada owns an acre
tract on the creek at the intake, and
this acre has been fenced, and stock
is shut out. But a few feet above
the intake is a pasture in which are
a number o f hogs. We did not see
the hogs in the stream, but their
paths cross it several times and
the tracks are very recent, and one
would not be surprised to find the
hogs in the water at any time, be
cause when you travel along the
stream evidence o f their recent pres
ence is available everywhere.
This may not effect the purity o f
the water— they may be healthy,
clean hogs— we had no means of
finding out.
Next week the article will further
deal with the conditions o f the
stream above the intake. In case of
excessise rains, the public is advised
not to drink the city water before
boiling until some system o f purifi-
. cation is effected.
It is not the purpose o f these arti-
; cles to criticise or offer a solution,
but if our readers have a solution to
suggest, the News will be glad to
i publish it.
