"HOOK AND LADDER NO. 9 ”
COMING TO LIBERTY
Fire department heads are unani
mous in asserting F. B. O.’s produc
tion, “Hook and Ladder No. 9” to be
the most realistic and actual por
trayal of the life of the fire-fighters
which has ever been filmed. Highest
praise has been given for the manner
in which a number of thrilling fire
scenes have bene filmed, as well as
for the accurate presentation of the
everyday life and spirit of the depart
ment. “Hook and Lidder No. 9” is
being shown at the Liberty Theatre,
Estacada, Saturday only.
“Starting at the bottom” is a time
worn formula for success, but that's
exactly what Mary Pickford has done
in her latest production, ..My Best
Girl,” Sunday and Monday’s feature
at the Liberty. Much of the action
is in the basement of a five-and-
ten-cent-store, and “America’s Sweet
heart” is both literally and figurative
ly “at the bottom” in the various
scenes.

SW AIN JU D G E IN NEW COMEDY
Mack Swain, who appears as the
night court judge in Mary Pickford’»
latest production, “My Best Girl,” at
the Liberty theater, is one of the
screen’s best-known fun-makers. He
was bom in Salt Lake City, Utah,
and went to school there, but at the
age of fifteen decided to become an
actor.
His first stage experience was as
a suprtr with a traveling stock com
pany, but he son went to New York,
and for nearly 23 years devited his
efforts to both dramatic and comedy
work before the footlights.
In 1913 he came to Los Angeles
and hadl his first film role as a park-
keeper in “A Muddy Romance,” a
Mack Sennett comedy. His work was
so outstanding that Sennett immedi
ately signed him to a long-term con
tract, and for nearly ten years he ap
peared regularly in Sennett pictures.
Recently he has been free-lancing,
nnd played in “Terror,” “See You In
Jail,” “Becky” and “On Ze Boule
vard.” He is one of the largest ac
tors in Hollywood, weighing 300
pounds and standing six feet two
inches. In “My Best Girl,” which
will be shown at the Liberty Sunday
and Monday, he plays his first role
with Mary Pickford.
