The berry growers’ caravan start
ing at Gresham and numbering 40
at Sandy, joined the Sandy grange
in a potluck dinner Saturday. The
county agent o f Multnomah county
Mr. lla ll o f Gresham, presided at the
luncheon.
The berry situation was
given by Mr. Hall, D. E. Towle, and
H. B. Davis, and Felix Chiodo also
a grow er charmed the crowd with
his accordion. The caravan enjoyed
tlie hospitality o f the grange as well
as the hot coffee.
They went to
Boring and Damascus later.
Mr. Hall said $1,000,000 was dis
tributed to the berry growers o f
Eastern Multnomah and this section
lust year, and that witin a few years
that amount should be doubled, and
predicted a continuous berry field
would eventually be planted from
D over to Gresham.
Mr. Davis urged having the county
agent examine your soil, that on
their way to Sandy they had seei
crops not adapted to the soil, hence
failures.
The one field would go
4 DO tons, the one adjoining, perhaps
one ton.
Mr. Towle said he sees no reason
why all berries should not be har
vested this season, that the weevil
menace and neglected
cultivation
will offset over-planting.

Things were stirring at Sandy oi

The grange was in ses

session held forth up stairs at the
I. O. O. F. hall, and down stairs 25
political orators modestly told theii
hearers o f their fitness fo r their re
spective political plums; the grange
dancers were dancing and life was
