FIRWUQDEN FARM HAS
IMPORTANT DAIRY
In bis speech on “The Money Pow
er in Politics,” before the P. T. A.
guests Saturday, B. F. Lindas paid
women the compliment of saying it
will be through women voters that
idealism in politics will eventually
curb the money power. Lindas urged
voting for the man rather than the
party.

Firwooden farm, owned and oper
ated by Mr. and Mrs. Anton Malar,
three miles east of Sandy, one of the
most important dairy farms in this
section, is visited frequently by noted
Jersey producers, Ivan H. Loughary,
field man for the Northwest, and
Bartley A. Bull of Ontario, Canada,
being visitors last week. Mr. Bull
imports fine Jerseys and has made
many trips to the Isle of Jersey. Mr.
Bull and sons have just received a
shipment of 90 Jei'stys from the Isle
and another lot will be received soon.
Raleigh Harold and five of his
calf club boys from Stayton spent
Tuesday at Firwood farm looking
over the herd, and taking pictures
then returned again Sunday and took
back with them two splendid sis
months old Jersey heifers one of
which was the fine club heifer owned
and raised by Annabel Molar.
J. G. DeShazcr, local dairyman,
has purchased two A-l heifers from
the Molar herd which trace to such
records for production as Poppy’s St.
Mawes, a gold medal sire, Noble Lad’s
Lady Helen, a gold, silver and meda’
of merit cow with a record of 830
pounds of butterfat and 14,714 lbs
of milk, and La Belle’s Girl with 901
pounds of fat.
Other sales recently mad» are two
young Jersey herd sires to Wm. Mc-
Killop and Chas. Rider both of Ore
gon City, and another to William E.
Lamp, Euphraim, Utah.
It is reported that the price of
strawberries this season is not very
encouraging, said to be due to over
production— and yet is there ever r
time when everyone has all they want
to eat!

Hundreds thronged -the scene of
the Jones tragedy all day on Sunday
from the city and all parts of the
country. Hearts beat as one in sym
pathy when a local tragedy occurs.
FUNERAL HELD FOR
MOTHER AND SON
One of the saddest funerals ever
held in this section was that of Mrs.
Inez Jones and her son Harold who
were buried at Damascus Thursday,
Rev. O. J. Gil! giving the sermon and
the Boring I. O. O. F. lodge was in
charge of the arrangements. The
Boring Rebekahs read the service at
the grave and the Sandy grange war
also represented in the rites.
Mrs. Lund, L. H. Mallicoat, Carl
Gregson of Boring, assisted by Percy
Shelley and Mrs. Miller of Sandy,
sang the hymns. Pail bearers for
Harold were boys from the Boring
school: Donald Rich, Marion Duley,
Mildan Aubin, Edwin Child, Kenneth
Valber, Robert Modine. For Mrs.
Jones: John Hoffmeister, Floyd and
Asa Lake, Oliver Peterson, Dan Erd-
man, J. Shonteen. As the service
closed the rain begun falling and the
three hundred present left the scene
with tearful eyes.
Mrs. Jones was born at Bridge-
water. South Dakota, 36 years ago
and was married to R. B. Jones in
1910. Harold was born at Boring
in 1917.

The Marmot school district will
probably not vote on the question
of suspending school for a year and
sending to the Sandy grammar school
until the annual meeting. However,
the Marmot board will confer with the
Union high board concerning trans
portation meanwhile.
An evening honoring the birthday
of Wm. Fischer of Firwood was a
complete surprise put on over Mr.
Fischer recently, the occasion being
much enjoyed by those present, who
were Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie, Mr. and
Mrs. W alter Krebs and Lewis, Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Perret, Amanda and
Georgia, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Koen-
nicke, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Alt, Mr. and
Mrs. Fischer and Phillip. The eve
