known as the Bridenstein place. Mr.
Powell admits that at thgt time i(
was not mucl» o f a farm from gep-
cral appearance.
The people whr
had been working the place had it
rent free, because it was not consid
ered possible to make a living on the
place and pay rent.
Start. With G ood Stock
When Mr. Powell started to gc
into the poultry business here he did
not make this mistake so often made
by would-be poultrymen. He bought
the finest strain o f leghorns he coulc'
buy, paying a higher price than he
would have had to pay if he had
bought inferior stock.
He started
with 310 birds.
From those 310 white leghorns Mr.
Powell says that he made a profit of
$1000 the first year, which, o f coursr
did not allow fo r labor. But if he
had charged regular wages fo r the
time necessary to care fo r the flock
he still would have had a nice profit.
