lias Much Better Chance of
Securing Higher Price.
It paid the Kaw Valley potato
growers to grade their wares anti
brand the sacks in which they were
i shipped in 1026, according to E. A.
I Stokdyk of the Kansas State agricul
tural college. “From July G to August
21 the bulk of Kaw valley potatoes
I moved to market,” he said. “Sides
records were obtained on 530 cars
marketed during this period, or 13.5
' per cent of the Kaw valley potato
| crop. A number of growers were
j marketing U. S. No. 1 potatoes. These
i outsold partly graded potatoes SI
!<?r cent of llie time. Partly graded
potatoes outsold U. S. No. 1 only 13
per cent of the time. This indicates
that the grower who has his potatoes
graded nnd inspected under Federal
supervision so that they grade U. S.
No. 1 has from 80 to 90 chances out
of every 100 of getting a higher price
dinii he would obtain if his potatoes
were not graded or were only partly
graded.
‘ Soiling potatoes in branded sacks
Iso paid. Branded sacks outsold un-
branded sacks for the same grade and
same method of sale 57 per cent of
the time. Unbranded sacks outsold
branded sacks for the same grade and
ame method of sale only 34 per cent
’f the time. In the remaining 9 per
cent of instances, returns were ap
proximately the same for branded aud
unbranded potatoes.
“The experiences of the growers
