DOUGLAS JOHNSON M anaging E ditor Subscription Kates One Year ....................................... $1.60 Six Months ......................................... 75 MORE O F C H R IS T IA N IT Y A thought we would emphasize at this season has been so well ex pressed by the editor of the Gresham Outlook that we can do no better than pass on his w ords: There are more Christians in the world today than ever before and more of Christianity. C hrist is bet ter understood, more loved and his spirit and teachings more generally exem plified than in any day or age of the w orld’s history. It is well to think of this fact between Christm as 1926 and New Year Y ear's Day, 1927. It is possible to take a narrow view, ju d g e o th e rs by o n e ’s own warped standard and conclude that th e r e n e v e r was so much atheism, m ate ria lism an d anti- C hristian p ro p aganda in the w orld as at p resen t. But such a view is based on p rej udice not fact. The editor has observed many Christm ases and read und observed with an open mind. He is convinced he never passed through a Christm as season before in which the spirit of Him "who w ent about doing good” was so rife. There never was more harm ony am ong religious sects. There never was more universal reverence for God, fo r Christ, fo r sacred institu tions. There never was more re spect fo r religious institutions or more generous support of the agencies fo r relief which, whatever their name or auspices, are inspireu and m aintained by Christian faith and teaching. The sentim ent of brotherhood was never more prom inent than now. Re ligious teaching and work was never more aeceptible and th a t anywhere in the world. Civilization advances. God reigns and all is well with his world. Not all of the wrongs have been righted, of course, but there is more of knowledge, justice, tru th , goodness, tem perance, love and righteousness among men these closing days of 1926 than there were a generation, a century, a millenium ago. Men who have country-w ide vision say it was a w onerful year for busi ness. In spots it was not so good, true, but by and large it was ab normally good. The forecast by these same experts, is th a t at least the first half of 1927 will continue to be ex ceptionally good. Locally the situ a tion may be said to be ju st beginning to get good. A poor season for prunes was the worst thing we can say for 1926. But there is much to be said in its favor. As an indication of the prosperity in Estacadu perm it us to call a tte n tion to the house shortage. F o r the past 2 m onths it has been practically impossible to rent a house here w ith out waiting fo r several weeks for « vacancy. This is true in the su r rounding country as well. The mills have been running steadily. Farm production was high and for the bet te r grades paid well. Business has been steadily increasing in volume. The outlook is bright for the coming year. i n .i YOU WILL NEED CLOTHES LEAVE TO from PORTLAND ALL F R E I G H T AT W A R E H O U S E In ordering your freight sent through us you receive personal ser vice both in Estacada and Portland that will save time and monty and in buying  WILL WANT TO SAVE MONEY A 4\ PORTUND-CAkVtR* ESTACADA A f & A A P H O N E 18-12 I I a Call and D eliver Service I can m eet your nc-ds by selling you Com- r Suits. “ Ail W eather Coats," Overco .U and Women's fo n ts mad« to order.
