RUSH
OF
’ 76
R E P R O D U C E D IN N E W FILM
Two great "rushes” across the
continent marks the history of the
West’s development. The first was
the rush o f the forty-niners from
the East to the gold-fields of Cali-
forniaand the free lands o f Ore
gon.. The second was the rush of
'76 by the farmers o f the Mississip
pi valley to the buffalo fields of
Montana and Wyoming.
It is this latter rush that forms
the theme o f Zane Grey’s “ The
Thundering Herd,” which William
K. Howard directed
for
Para
mount.
It will be the chief film
attraction at the Liberty Theatre
where it opens, next Saturday for a
three day’s run.
The picture vividly recreates the
old west of fifty years ago. Thru-
out the plains o f
the mid-west.
huge herds o f buffalo roamed at
will. Then, inthe spring o f 1876,
news
spread
that
hides
were
bringing as much as three dollars
each in the east.
Immediately
there - was a rush.
Persons from
all over the country and from all
walks o f life started for the buf-
falo fields.
Perhaps the greatest
influx was from Illinois, Indiana
and Ohio.
The story o f “ The Thundering
Herd” . tells o f the journey of a
group o f hardy men and women
from their farms in the east to the
vast, uncivilized territory of the
far west, o f the hardships they suf-
uncivilized territory of the far
west— o f the hardships they cuf-
fered, o f the dangers they cncoun-
tered, the obstacles they overcame
and o f their ultimate success when
they arrived at their destination.
The picture is packed from start
to finish with
thrilling incidents
and dynamic action.
Two of the
mighty scenes in the production
show a terriffic battle between five
hundred Indians and a handful of
white men, and a mad stampede
o f two thousand fear-crazed buf
falo.
