Large scale poultry on one, two
and three tracts is a hazardous
and generally short lived enterprise,
according to H. E. Cosby, poultry
specialist for Oregon extension ser
vice.
Soil contamination with its
attendant destructive diseases is al
most sure to follow such system of
management.
Construct poultry ranges and lay
ing houses after the pattern o f
types that have proved their worth,
advises H. E. Cosby, Poultry special
ist for the extension service. Plans
for successful houses can be had
from any county agent or by writing
the Oregon Agricultural, College,
Corvallis, Oregon.
• Experimental work at O. A. C.
with potatoes has shown that hot
formaldenide and the corrosive sub
limate treatment to be about equal
ly effective. The corrosive subli
mate treatment is best suited to
small lots o f potatoes, while, where
there are to be large plantings, and
where facilities are available for
providing plenty o f hot water, the
hot form a ld eid e treatment is most
economical..
That 1925 should be a good corn
year in Oregon, as there is not
nearly enough corn produced in the
state and there was a large amount
o f high class seed harvested in 1924
in both eastern and western Oregon,
is the belief o f experiment station
authorities.
