in western Oregon, occasionally
causing severe damage to certain
pear varieties. Specimens of pear
cankers may be referred to the ex
periment station at Corvallis for free
diagnosis.
These cankers increase
from year to year. Control consists
in the thorough cutting out and dis
infection of the existing cankers,
followed by a summer bordeaux
spray as employed for anthracnose.

of a missile from a sling shooter or a
stray ball but later while Mrs. Allen j
was cleaning the room a flattened
bullet was found.
This had evi
dently been fired from a high pow
ered gun and had no doubt traveled
a considerable distance. Fortunately
the shot fired at a supposedly safe
range had met with nothing to stop
its terrific speed and finally ended
its course with no more serious re- \
suit than a broken window pane.
