No m atter how one has enjoyed a vacation, home is the best place after all. Mrs. W. A. Reylman visited Portland friends for a couple of days last week. At the rate the work is going- on at the Cascade Garage, it will soon be itself again. Miss Dora Currin, who is sten­ ographer in a law office in Salem, is home for a two weeks’ vaca­ tion. Mrs. T. J. Reagan departed Saturday noon for Eugene where she wifi visit for a few weeks with her daughter, Mrs. C. R. Betts. Mrs. Anna K. Morton returned Thursday evening from Seattle and Hoaquim. Wash., where she has been visiting for the past month. Mrs. H. Hogan a n d little daughter, were here from Glad­ stone the latter nartof last week, visiting Mrs. Hogan’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Page. The house occupied by U. S. Morgan and owned by W. H. Holder, has received a coat of paint recently and is much im­ proved in appearance thereby. Miss Ida Wagner returned from Oregon City F r i d a y evening where she has been attending the teachers’ training school. Miss Wagner will teach in the Boring schools. Dr. and Mrs. R Morse have moved into their house recently purchased from Dr. Adix. One improvement as far as outside looks are concerned they have made, is the removal o f the "crowsnest” formerly used as an outside sleeping porch. White of Willows, Ore., have been visiting the mother of the latter, Mrs. Rynning, left for their home Tuesday morning. Bob Marchbank returned from Silverton Tuesday, where he had been to bring home his mother and son “Goog,” who had been visiting relatives at that place. A card from Miss Eva Wash states that she and her mother will leave New Y >rk City for • home on the 21st, coming by way of New Orleans and Los Angeles. Mrs. F. L. Sanders, of Glad­ stone, arrived Saturday to.visit with Mrs. Herring and daughter, Miss Wava, also h e r brother James Guttnidge of Springwater. Mrs. W. T. McWillis and daugh­ ter, Mrs. Ruby Link, went to Portland Saturday. Mrs. Mc­ Willis returned the same day, but Mrs. L i n k remained to visit friends for a few da/s. Mrs. D. B. Bass returned from Portland Friday, where she vis­ ited at the home of her parents a day or two last week. Her lit­ tle girl was taken 3i ck while there, but is about well again now. A large 500-pound bell arrived last week for the Christian church and was raised to its place in the belfrv Friday. After this, two bells will call the people of Esta­ cada to worship on Sunday morn­ ings. Ed. Boner left for Cascadia Saturday morning to bring back the Ames’ family, who have been there with Mr. Ames for some time. Mrs. Underwood accom­ panied Mr. Boner on the trip. They all returned Monday. G. T. Hunt, of Baker City, in Eastern Oregon, who formerly lived in this vicinity and still owns property in Garfield, ar­ rived in town Monday morning to visit his ranch and spend a day looking, up his old friends. That he has not lest interest in Estacada was shown by his call­ ing at this office and renewing his subscription to the N e w s for another year. A. J. VanScoyac and wife, who have been visiting their sister, Mrs. C. S. Womer and other rela­ tives in this section for two months, left for Portland and Oregon City Saturday where they visit other relatives a few days, prior to leaving for their home at Tyron, P e n n s y l v a n i a . Miss Linda VanScoyac, of Gary, Ind.. who accompanied them from the East, met them in Portland Mon­ day and all returned together. Paye Five F. W. Burns, who has been working in a surveying party on the state highway in Union, Baker arid Malheur.counties, ar­ rived home Sunday evening.
