Postmaster and Mrs. W. A.
Heylman have recently received
letters from their son, Major W.
II. Heylman, stating that he can
not yet say when he will return
home. At the special request of
his commanding officer, he re
ceived orders* from Washington,
to stay as a member of the
American forces in France, as
the remaining ones are now
called. He has been placed in
charge of a prison camp, whence
the German war prisoners are
being repatriated.
He wrote
that about 48,000 would pass
thru in the next twenty days.
After this work is concluded, he
will go to Chaumont, the former
general headquarters of the
American army. His chief tells
him he will keep him until every
thing is cleaned up.
Report
goes that as a reward he will re
ceive three ribbons and a star.
He did not explain, but it may
be inferred that this means pro
motion. If so, it must be to
brigadier-general, for no rank
below this carries a star.
