The first day of the Clackamas
County Fair, will feature old
fashioned horse races. Horses
which are owned in the county,
will do the racing.
Mrs. D. M. Marshall returned
from Tillamook last week, where
she went to visit her niece, Miss
Echo Thomas. She is the daugh
ter of Mr. Frank Thomas who is
in the Tillamook hospital with a
broken leg.
Mrs. J. A. Somers has rented
her house to some of the teach
ers and will join Mr. Somers at
Blackwoif, Kansas, much to the
regtet of her many friends here.
Mr. and Mrs. Somers expect to
remain in Kansas about a year.
O. O. Bland, a former resi
dent of this place, but who has
been living the last year or two,
at Meridian, Idaho, is visiting
with his wife and daughter Eva,
Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Wagner.
Mr. Bland has sold out his inter
ests in Idaho, as the altitude was
too high for him. He is on his
wav to Rocklin, Calif, and later
will visit San Diego. We were
favored with a pleasant call from
him and his daughter.
A True Stoiy
A year ago a man and his wife
ar.d three children arrived in
Oregon.
He retried 17 acres of logan
berries from a prominent farmer
near Salem, the owner to receive
ore third of the crop net.
•To man had $25 in cash. He
cultivated his berries, kept his
family, picked the crop, paid the
owner of the land his third of
the crop, paid his debts and put
$1200 in the bank.
