We find in Holy Writ a Thanksgiving Day
admonition which is evidently the ideal of our
forefathers when instituting the festival.
“ This day is holy unto the Lord your
God; mourn not nor weep. * * Go
your way, eat the fat, and drink the
sweet, and send portions unto them for
whom nothing is prepared.”

DIED
At the Naval Hospital, Mare
Island, California, of pneumonia,
November 18th, 1918, William
Mckinley Hoffmeister, aged 20
years, 9 months and 24 days.
This young man died while in
his country’s service, whose call
he had responded to only sixteen
days previously. He was born
January 4th, 1898 and leaves his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Hoffmeister, and three brothers
and two sisters, Earnest, Gifford
Victor, Myrtle and Ruby to
mourn his untimely loss.
The funeral will take place at
the Eagle Creek Church tomor­
row, Friday, Nov. 22 at 11 a. m.
The Rev. J. F. Dunlop of Estaca­
da will officiate, and the inter­
ment will be in Forester’s ceme-
try under the direction of Under­
taker Chapman.
A card from C. E. Dockendorf
from Bar View, asks us to mail
his paper to Estacada. This im­
plies we suppose, his early return
here.
NOTICE.
The people who have been in
the habit of stealing at our place
the past year, were caught last
Monday night. In their hurry to
get away they left two sacks of
apples at the Stubbe barn. Ed.
Ross and Anderson recovered
the apples.
