Open September 9th
J
The 1918 19 year o f the Esta
cada public schools will begin
September 9th and all students
who can, are requested to enroll
before that date.
Several changes are contem
plated which will improve the
facilities o f the schools; among
them being the establishment o f
a commercial course, including
book-keeping, stenography and
typewriting.
There is a possi
bility that if sufficient students
are enrolled, a course in m ilitary
training will be offered for both
the boys and girls.
Improvements are suggested
covering the removal o f the boys’
lockers down stairs in the high
school building and the enclosing
o f the end o f the hall leading to
the , girls’ lockeri.
Cupboards
will likely be built in the domes
tic science department and cab
inets added for supplies and o f
fice equipment.
Joseph Douglass o f Estacada
has been engaged as janitor,
which assures a careful upkeep
o f fhe grounds and buildings.
The school garden is improved
since the rains, but needs culti
vation. Those children in charge
o f the work should attend to this
cultivation and some co-operative
plan can be arranged to facilitate
the work. All school gardeners
are entitled to a service flag,
which they may obtain by appli
cation to the superintedent.
This year o f all others should
see every child o f school a g e 're
turning to school the very first
day and remaining throughout
the year. England learned to its
sorrow that it was a mistake to
allow children to drop out o f
school to p u r s u e other work.
Any boy or girl is worth fa»*
more to his or her country if ed
ucated and trained.
Miss Ruth Morrison o f Hood
River, a graduate o f the O. A. C.,
will have charge o f the mathe
matics in the high school during
the coming year and Miss Sarah
DeVore, o f Winfield, Kansas is
to be instructor in the commer
cial course.
Estacada people having rooms
or board for students are request
ed to notify Supt. Signs, as he is
n o w making up a list o f s u c h
facilities.

tendered in honor o f Mrs. C. W.
