Mr. and Mrs. Walter Whit­
comb of Portland were guests at
the home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. A. 0. Whitcomb of Garfield
this week. Mr. Whitcomb is
enlisted in the government ser­
vice in connection wdth the build­
ing of cantonments in California,
but is now on a furlough in con­
junction with his application for
a lieutenancy in the Sanitary
Corps, which if obtained, will re­
sult in his being sent to France
at an early tUte.

Guy Graham of Estacada re­
turned home last week following
his annual pilgrimage to Alaska,
where he is associated with his
uncle in the salmon packing busi­
ness.
Miss Irma Graham of
Portland is also .at the home of
her mother, Mrs. Maude Graham,
prior to leaving for the Univer­
sity of Washington the latter
part of the month.
Concrete sidewalks are now
under construction on Main and
Fourth Sts., on the J. W. Reed
residence corner in Estacada, the
work being done by Charles Kit­
ching and Hugh Jones, who also
last week completed the concrete
approach to the Estacada Garage,
¡leading from the foot of the hill.
