Sheriff Wilson says — “ We cleaned out everything but the club’s cat". And the sheriff is now looking for the thieves who lately made even a more thorough cleanup of the local hen-roosts. Temporarily the Cascade Coun ty movement has been laid aside but not forgotten and the few en thusiastic promoters of the cause, who recently donated liberally of both money and labor, are now holding the empty sack, with about $125 of indebtedness yet to be met. A number of pledges towards the Cascade Fund are still unpaid and it is hoped these will soon be forthcoming, for the money is due for actual services performed. $1.00 .5 0 Thursday, April 19, 1917 The Oregon City Live Wires’ committee, which is boosting the $6,000,000 Road Bond Issue, style themselves “The Twelve Disci ples of Road Efficiency" and while they are doing a worthy work, the unenlightened Eastern Clackamas taxpayers from past experience are forced to suspect a “Judas" in the woodpile some where. The Oregon Journal recently published the following rules on “dag etiquette", which should be observed by all, during' these days of patriotic displays:- What are you doing now or planning to do to show your love of country and display your share of patriotism? If you cant en list- if you cant join some auxil- liary guard you at least can do your share in increasing the Na tion's food supply. So plant more now! Kaise the Hag at sunrise or after, never before. Lower the flag at sunset. When draping the flag against the side of a room or building, place the blue field always to the north or east. Hunting should be draped or hung with the red at the top, followed by the white and the blue in ac cordance with the heraldic colors of the flag. It is a mark of disrespect to allow the flag to fly throughout the night. A flag flown upside down is a signal of distress. It has been suggested that Es- tacada's new high school building be erected on lower Broadway, so that the pupils may be able to travel at least one block of de cent sidewalk to and from school. Like many other worthy causes undertaken and forsaken, the question “ Who gave the County Road Boss the $100 bribe?" has been shoved into the discard. But there are a few of us yet who would like to have this important question answered. M issionary T o S p eak The proverbial clam is a noisy animal as compared with the * Clackamas County Court, which last week spent a day in this com munity investigating some of our worst roads. On being interviewed by ye editor, who hoped to be able to carry a front page article this week reading "Douglass a n d Clear ('reek Canyon Hill Roads to be Repaired", he obtained a few appropriate remarks regard ing the weather. While Estacada may not stand in the lime-light displaying its sidewalks and sewer systems, it can point with pride to its schools and faculty, which last week turn ed out a bv#y and girl, who * brought home the first and second prizes in the County Oratorical and Declamatory Contests. The taxpayers of this rural sec- tion join with the News this week in congratulating the county au thorities on the thorough and businesslike manner in which they conducted their last raid on the Friars’ Club and furthermore compliment them on the stiff tines imposed on the boot-leggers. | On Sunday afternoon, April 22nd, at the Garfield M.
