W alter Givens H arry C. Reid - - Fred Bartholomew WEEKLY Editor in Chief Advertising Mgr. - Bouncer Devoted to the stimulation of civic and community pride - the patronizing of home industries - and the boosting of the W. Givens Company, Incorporated. é B OOSTING Vol. 1 » Eslacada, Or. Loc 19, 1 Mention April 1917 No. 20 Live Stock We were unable to get a full ear of live stock together for shipment this week so postponed shipment until next Wednesday the 25th, on which date we will positively ship a mixed car, and invite all having live stock of any kind to advise us at once so that we may arrange to include them in this next car. ^ l'h e hog market still continues to climb, and there is no one will ing to risk a guess as to just how high it will go, but its a safe bet that there will be no more cheap hogs this year, as the outlook at the Portland Union Stock Yards is that there is less than one-half of the required needs, based on last years figures, and the sup plies cannot be increased unless the farmers of the North West begin to conserve their breeding stock. In order to build up uhe hog in dustry in this community, we have arranged to ship into this station a part car of young brood sows. These are of the Puroc Jersey stoek and all eligible to register but there will be no pa pers with them as tney have not been kept separated in the herd. The number is limited as we were unable to get as many as we wished and the price will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $25.00 cash on arrival of the car some time the latter part of this week or the first of next. Get your order in early as we are already having more in quiries than we will be able to fill. We also have on hand a few 9 weeks old Poland China Pigs which we bought last week and which we will sell at $9.00 each if taken this week. There are only a few of these and a mighty good buy for some one. First come first served. We were glad to note such an enthusiastic attendance at the Farmers & Merchants Club on Monday evening. While we were ashamed of the ignorance of the president in not having seen that some of the details had been at tended to at previous meetings, we were glad that some headway was made. Unless our friend Bartlett falls down on the incor poration papers, we should be able to complete the organization next Monday night. We beg of you, Mr. Dairyman, if you are notified of a meeting for Monday night, that you will make one more effort to be present; and let’s get the wheels of progress to rolling and the cheese factory in operation. We were glad to learn, while in Oregon City Monday, that the County Court and road boss had been inspecting the »*oads in East ern Clackamas. Now that they know the Douglass Hill and the stretch of road past the Frank Thomas place are impassable, we are in hopes that something will be done in these two places im mediately. The suggestion has been made that a home guard be organized in Estadada. While the editor-in- chief and a few others are a little fleshy and crippled up, neverthe less we are willing to do our part for this home guard. Why not have a patriotic meeting some time in the near future? We think that this is a time to show our patriotism. W’ith the market advancing dai ly on practically every article used or consumed bythe common people, we cannot help but won- The Same As Gold We have arranged to buy wool and mohair again this year on the same basis as last, and those who sold to us last year will re member that our prices were al ways top. The present market on mohair is 60c lb. or $1200.00 per ton, so you dont have to have a great deal to have the same as gold. When you have either mo hair or wool it will pay you to get our prices before selling. Potatoes At time of going to press the price on potatoes, (No. 1 Whites) is $4. cwt., which is high mark of this season. We know not if the top has been reached but we are buying on this basis today and until the market breaks will continue to pay the top price. No matter how few or many you have, we want them and our price is top. der just what the outcome is go ing to be for the man with the large family this winter. The best way to solve the problem is for every individual, who possibly can, to raise their own garden. Remember, we have the garden seeds necessary for a first class garden. The potatoes for the boys club are now available, and we will be glad to have the boys who have entered this club call for their seed immediately. Same has been passed upon oy the commit tee in charge ami the potatoes have been treated for all diseases. As soon as the weather clears up, these potatoes should be planted.
