I I Dorcas Society To Meet The Garfield Dorcas Society will meet Thursday, January 18th, with Mrs. M. Laing o f Gar field. This is the day for annual re ports and election o f officers and a full attendance is desired. Mrs. A. 0 . Whitcomb, Secy. At the annual meeting o f the Garfield Country Club, held Jan uary 2nd, Thos. Carter was elect ed President, H. A. La Barre, Secy-Treas.. Andrew Anderson, George Hathaway and Floyd Da vis, Directors. Already, the new officers are beginning a rejuvenation o f the club and are soliciting the sale o f additional shares o f stock in the organization, which added capital will result in further improving that valuable social center. Everyone knows the good work that has been done by this com munity organization, which is noted as the first o f its kind in the country and a ready response in the buying o f the stock, should be forthcoming. 3U * G. J. Taylor Coming Want tjou An entertainment will take place at the Estacada M. E. Church next Saturday evening, January 13th, the proceeds to go towards the purchase o f a piano for the church. The program will consist o f a lecture by Gordon J. Taylor, lecturer, newspaperman a n d humorist and a crowd should wel come Mr. Taylor, who is well known here, having until a few months ago been the editor o f the Mollalla Pioneer. In addition, P. Waldo Davis and his Golden Chimes will furnish a musical treat. All are invited to enjoy this entertainment, tickets being 15c and 25c Burning Barn Illumines Estacada Estacada was treated to two unusual night illuminations in the last few days, including a full eclipse o f the moon on Sunday evening. On Saturday evening, the barn on the Walter Gribben place, on the top o f the Estacada Heights Hill was completely destroyed by fire. As the burning building was above the city reservoir, no aid could be rendered by the fire department and after getting the stock to a place o f safety, the neighbors were powerless to stop the blaze. Walter Gribben o f Estacada Heights was this week taken to a Portland hospital, where it is necessary that he undergo an op eration for appendicitis. Clearing House Where we will endeavor to dispose of Ernest Duus o f Garfield, who has been spending the holidays at home and incidentally practic ed the auto-high-dive from the Estacada Main St. Hi'l, returned last week to his work at Palouse Falls, Wash._______ The Currinsville Priscilla Club met last Thursday at the home o f Mrs. R. H. Currin, where an ex tra fine tamale dinner was en joyed. _______________ Young Man At Head Of Country Club . Stephens Gets Important Appointments Hon. H. C. Stephens, repre sentative from this district at the present Legislature has been signally honored by receiving committee appointments o f im portance, including the chairman ship o f the Committeeon Counties and membership on the highly important Ways and Means and the Banking committees. It is seldom that a new repre sentative is honored with such committee appointments and em phasises the fact that Clackamas County made no mistake in the election o f Mr. Stephens.
