G ra n g e C h ristm a s T re e El w ood Item s Contributed The next regular meeting of the i Garfield Grange will occur Satur day, December 23rd, when follow ing the usual dinner, a Christmas program will be given. It is planned to have a regular old fashioned Christmas Tree and a real live Santa Claus, with pre sents galore for all of the people of the community. Everyone is invited to attend | this meeting and urged to bring ; the children. Mrs. Chris. Bittner is working for her daughter Mrs. Ella Hotter who was operated on at the Ore gon City Hospital, last week and is reported to be doing nicely. „ The school teacher, Mi s s Springer spent Thanksgiving with her parents in Portland. Norma Vallen of Oregon City High School, was home for Thanksgiving, remaining till Sun day. Estacada and especially the • Garfield country is fast building up a reputation as a section noted for the growing of nursery stock, especially prune trees. On Wednesday a carload ship ment was made from here by the O. W. Failing Nursery of Gar field, the young trees being ship- ed to Portland wholesale dealers. This shipment comprised 15,000 trees, Mgr. Failing retaining a few hundred choice ones at the nursery for the supplying of the local trade, which has grown rapidly in the past two years. Mr. and Mrs. Rowan visited at the home of Mrs. M. Freeman a few days last week. Mr. Rowan being laid up with some crushed toes caused by being run over with a Donkey engine. Josie Cadonau of Portland is visiting her sister Lilly Park. Effie Cox is spending a few weeks in Oregon City the guest of her brother Stanford. Rev. I). Tattman of Salem, Presiding Elder of the U. B. Church delivered three able ser mons Saturday and Sunday at the Mt. Home Church. Rev. A. S. Henderson of Phil omath, Ore., visited his parents and sister a few days last week. A number of men and ladies met last Saturday and partly fin ished the house shed at the church, that has been an eye sore for 4 or 5 years, the men doing the carpenter work and the ladies furnishing a fine dinner to which all did justice. S hopping- DO YOURS EARLY Carload Shipment of Prune Trees Mrs. Frank Bittner visited her sister-in-law Mrs. Ella Hotter at the hospital Sunday. Walter Cox made a trip to Ore gon City Sunday with their auto, taking Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Wil son, who have been visiting their daughter Eva for a few days and looking after the interest of his place, which he has rented out the past 7 years. Christm as j I I 1 Mrs. Maud Graham of Esta cada spent Thanksgiving in Seattle, where she visited her daughter Miss Irma Graham, who is attending the University of Washington and her son Guy, who is employed there. Mrs. Graham took with her, Florence June and Mary Alice Reed, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Reed, who visited their sister Rachel, who also is attending the University. Too M uch Am bition.
