Parent-Teacher Ass’n. Notes Eagle Creek Notes Contributed The Parent-Teacher Associa tion, which, during the summer months has confined its activities to play-shed supervision, is again taking up work with renewed vigor. Judging from the prog rams arranged for the coming months, the meetings will be both interesting and instructive and prospects are bright for a busy happy year. The first meeting o f the associ ation occurred Thursday evening. Sept. 21st in the High School with a goodly number in attendance. It was o f a social nature, the first part o f the evening being given over to greeting old acquaint ances and new. Then fa1 lowed the discussion o f the topic for the evening, “ Coop eration.” Mrs. Devore spoke from t h e parents’ standpoint, bringing up problems which con front most parents. She handled he’* subject well and her remarks were greatly enjoyed. Mr. Guth rie then spoke briefly, showing how much it means to the teach er to have the cooperation o f the parents. Conversation, m i n g l e d with punch and wafers, concluded a very pleasant evening. I'he cOiiimit.ee in charge was Miss Gertrude Dillon, Mrs. J. A. Somer and Mrs. J. W. Harvest Festival Rally Day oiySunday, October 3th Springwater Presbyterian Church Few Birds Killed i More than one weary hunter returned to the home fireside last Sunday evening, foot-sore a n d pheasantless, as the opening of the bird season October 1st, was the least auspicious o f any for years past. Many shots were heard in the Currinsville and Eagle Creek bot tom land from daylight on. with a fair waste o f a m m u n i t i o n throughout Garfield and Spring- water, but few pheasants fell, for the birds were few and far between, owing to the hardships o f last winter. Despite the increase o f 33‘ 3 per cent, in the prices o f ammu nition, considerable shooting was done, with probably many shots wasted in a vain attempt to bring down the few birds flushed. The continued cold weather un til late last spring seems to have killed many o f the young chicks, resulting in a latter brood o f birds, many o f which were in evidence this year, being about the size of quail and still remaining in bands with the mother birds. Judging from the number of people who had a liberal taste of the venispn, the animals must have been the size o f oxen and equalled in quantity the amount o f generosity o f the lucky hunt ers.
