These are not his very words, for this advertisement would have to be
printed on asbestos if they were, but anyway, we got an awful call-down and
tongue-lashing one day this week from one of our good customers, who went up
in the air before he realized exactly what he was talking about.
The trouble was, he could not comprehend the absolute fairness of our
newly established 2% cash discount system, supposing that it was a scheme
primarily aimed to benefit a few and not all customers.
He finally cooled off sufficiently to listen to our explanation of of this

and now realizes that every cash purchase is subject to this 2% discount and
the tickets are mere.y used to facilitate the handling of the accounts, where
the amounts involved are two small individually to allow of paying the 2% at
time of purchase. But we explained that we will gladly give the 2"« cash
discount at the time of purchase, if preferred, provided the order amounts to
a dollar or more.
Compare our prices first and dont get the idea that you are getting
anything but a real 2% cash discount on all goods that you buy here.

Attendance At Country
Club Picnic Light
Owing to the general rush
among the farmers to get their
hay under cover, the attendance
at the annual picnic of the Gar
field Country Club on last Satur
day, was below the usual average.
An enjoyable day and evening
was spent by those who were for
tunate to be present, with games
and sports entertaining all. An
impromptu program was given
in the pavilion, among the speak
ers being, Walter Givens of Es
tacada; Ü. C. Stephens of George;
Edwin Shearer of Garfield; and
the News’ editor; the latter
believing in the motto, “ Blessed
is he who hath nothing to say
and cant be persuaded to say it.”

The Mayor’s Dog Is Lost
“ Hiram” the pure white bull
terrior dog, belonging to Mayor
Irwin D. Wright of Estacada is
missing.
The last seen of the animal
was early Sunday morning when
he started to follow the automo
bile from Estacada towards Port
land via Boring.
The dog has probably taken up
with some kindly farmer along
the route, as he is of a sociable
disposition and willing to accept
the hospitality and food of
strangers.
Information as to the where
abouts of “Hiram” will be great
ly appreciated by the owner.

Ben S. Patton of Estacada is this
week in receipt of a communica
tion from State Warden Shoemak

ants for liberation in the state.
As this county is admirably a-

multiply rapidly, a share of them
should be turned loose here.
Advise the News’ office if you
want to liberate a few on vour
