In the 17 valley counties. Clac-
amas ranks seventh in amount of
money to be received ultimately
from the sale of Oregon & Cali
fornia grant land. The total
amount received by all the coun
ties is $11,000,000 and the money
will be used in the upbuilding of
roads within their border or for
the construction of roads.
The disposition of the fund, as
it comes into the possession of
the different counties from land
sales, is left to the county courts,
under the terms of the bill just
passed by congress. The courts,
in other words, have the power
to say whether the funds or the
income from them shall be spent
for port construction or mainten
ance, for roads, or whether the
fund shall be invested and the in
terest derived therefrom used as
a continuing appropriation for
the benefit of port and road con
struction and maintenance.
The amount to be received by
each of the 17 counties will be
large or small in proportion to
the number of acres of grant land
yet remaining unsold in each

P icture Show C hanges Days
Beginning with Thursday ev
ening, June 22nd, manager
Sparks of the Estacada Family
Theatre announces that shows
will be given on the evenings of
Thursdays and Saturdays of each
week, instead of Wednesdays
and Saturdays as formerly.
At the request of many people
who did not witness the former
film "Excuse Me’’, Mr. Sparks
has arranged to feature it a sec
ond time, on the evening of June
22nd. This is one of the best
farces ever produced.
As the productions shown at
the local theatre twice a week
now are the same as are shown
at Portland's best theatres a few
weeks previous, larger crowds
are attending the local shows.
Fam ily R eunion
A regular old fashioned, enjoy
able family reunion was held last
week at toe no.nes of E. E. and
C. C. Saling of Cui rinsville, with
the majority ot the relatives on
both sides ot the family present.
In the caseof the Saling brothers,
who tnirried sisters, it is a slight
ly easier matter to bring about a
family reunion, than in the usual
case of two brothers, each mar
rying into separate families.
Among the guests were C. H.
Bartholomew and family and Mrs.
Mary Bartholomew and family of
Glenwood, Washington; W. I.
Bartholomew of Portland and
Fred C. Bartholomew of Estaca
da; one brother H. E. Bartholo
mew being unable to attend.
As Mrs. Artemesia Saling, the
aged mother of C. C. and E. E.
Saiing. is living in Currinsville
too, it added materially to the en
joyment of the affair.
The Currinsville school closed
on June 2nd. A picnic was held
as a final celebration. The fol
lowing six pupils received prizes
for being on the honor roll all
year: Mary Ely. Ly ha and Wal
ter Matson, Ralph Wade, Irene
Saling and Erma Jones. Miss H.
Hoss has been secured for teach
er next fall.

now touring the country in his

ville held their last regular meet
ing at the home of Mrs. C. C.
Saling.
Some of Eagle Creek’s contin
gent of jokers are this week hav
ing the laugh on Lou Baker, the
genial blacksmith, who last week
drove his auto almost to the top
of the Forrester Hill, before dis
covering that b>9 iras tank was
empty.
At this critical stage of the a-
scent, Lou decided to do the
“ gravity turn” whiéh consists of
slowly letting the car back down
hill under gravity power, in the
meantime turning the car around
and sailing back to level terra-
firma according to the law's of
gravitation.
Now that was wrhat Lou expec
ted to do, according to the Eagle
Creek correspondent, but in real
ity he pulled off one of those hair-
raising, death defying, awe-in
spiring, thrilling “dips of death”
or “ looping the fence-post acts”
and successfully at that, after
traversing about one hundred feet
of cross country and demolishing
a length or two of fence.
Correspondent further deposes
and says that neither the driver
nor his wife were hurt and the
car refused to turn turtle and
when brought to a stop was in
perfect running order.
With a little practise, it is
hoped that Mr. Baker will si age
this thriller at the coming July
4th celebration at Estacada.
Wait Till “ Boz" Presents The Bill
Dr. and Mrs. Lee A. Wells of
Estacada, have this week return
ed to the stern realities of life,
having pleasantly spent their hon
eymoon at Log La Barre, after a
brief inspection enroufe from
Currinsville to Log La Barre, of
their newdy built bungalow on
Terrace Addition.
During said inspection, purely
in order to make it passible for
Mrs. Wells to see more of the
architectural beauties of the new
home, hubby turned on all the
electric lights in the house and
forgot to turn them off. Contrac
tor Misener discovered the meter
buzzing merrily and expensively
the following morning and tffe
Doctor has gone back to work, in
hopes he may get together a suf
ficient quantity of the filthy ma-
zuma to offset the eventful day
of Boswell’s arrival with the lit
tle blue slip, which like death
and taxes always pursues us.

Cecil Schock and Noble McMil
lan of Estacada, are now located
at Fabens, Texas, where they arc
employed in the government Re
clamation Service.
Aside from extreme heat, dust
storms and no rain, the boys like
their new location almost as well
as Estacada, but inasmuch as a
fat pay check comes around each
month, they intend to stick ¡tout
for a while at least
Ken Bartlett and Alljert Shank-
land, who have been attending
the University of Oregon and Or
egon Agricultural College, res
pectively, have returned to their
homes for the summer vacation.

the delivery of an Oakland ma
chine to G. H. Lichthorn of Es
