Before 1 ever agreed to become a Republican candidate
for the County Commissionerehip, I was assured by W. A,
Procter of Sandy, that he would not consider running for
the office, but as the letter herewith shows, he did not
live up to his promise.
I had also understood that neither Hal nor Harvey Gib
son o f Barton would become candidates and would have
gladly supported Hal Gibson, had his official duties as post
master. not made it impossible for him to run and now at
the eleventh hour, his brother Harvey has entered the race.
I offered to, and would gladly have withdrawn from the
race, had I forseen the conditions which now exist, but be
ing the Original Eastern Clackamas Candidate, I respectfully
solicit your support at the coming primaries. May 19th.
Unless the voters o f this part o f the county stand to
gether for one candidate, it will mean that some part o f the
county, which already is represented in the County Court,
will receive the nomination.

I have no personal tight against either of the local can
didates, knowing them to be good, sound business men, but
I know and you know, that i f the vote of the Eastern part o f
the county is split up among the three candidates, it will
eliminate Eastern Clackamas’ only chance of being repre
sented in the next County Court.
I f nominated and elected, “ I will give the best that is
in me and the benefit of my experience as a contractor, road
and bridge builder.”
Yours for Fair Play, and Representation from this part
of the County, in the county’s governing body.
J. W. REEI).
