Estacadian Before The Footlights Before the Portland Press Club tonight, will be presented a five act Indian play, illustrating the life of the Indian as the pioneers found him, the better phase of Indian nature being depicted. The play, costumes and music are the work of a Mrs. L. B. Downey-Bartlett and are des criptive of the different tribal ceremonies which formerly ex isted among the Indians. The leading members in the cast are William Underwood o f Estacada and his brother Corbett of Underwood, Wash., who take the parts o f Chiefs White Cloud and Great Bear. Few of Bill’s friends ever sus pected him o f harboring histrion ic ambitions, but let the girls and ladies beware, for if Bill ever gets to be a matinee idol, he will sure break up some hearts, for not even the legendary Hiawatha in his palmy days, was as hand some a looking buck as Bill Un derwood, and brother Corbett will do his share towards presenting the stolid Indian of history as a good looking, clean cut youth. As soon as the bill boards ad vertise an advance date for Bill’s further appearance, the Estacada crowd is going to hire a special car and with the band playing, “ I Never Rasied My Son to Be an Actor” is going to buy up the front rows. Card Of Thanks I wish to thank my many friends for the help and sym pathy extended to me in the re cent illness and death of my be loved husband. Mrs. J. W. Johnson. Springwater, Or., March 7. 1916. Editor News: My Dear Bob— For several weeks the residents of Springwater have been unable to get telephone connections with Estacada owing to the condition of the cable running under the railway tracks. Most of t h i s winter our service has been very poor for the same reason. I am reliably informed that the Esta cada Telephone Co. has this cable but simply neglects putting it in. Can you just insert this in your paper as a suggestion to your merchants that they exert a pres sure on the Telephone Co. or Brother Sparks to get this cable in as promptly as they send in their bills. S. W. Kilgore. The Springwater Grange will meet next Saturday, when the new lecture contest begins. Services will be held at the Springwater Presbyterian Church next Sunday morning, the topic o f the sermon being “ Christ a- gainst the Devil” . Evening ser vices will be held at Eagle Creek and Christian Endeavor meetings will occur at 7 P. M. at both churches.
