Bartlett o f Estacada last week announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the office o f county district j attorney. To date, Wm. M. Stone of Ore gon City is the only other candi date in the field for this nomina tion. Gilbert Hedges, the pres ent incumbent will probably be the contender on the Democratic ticket. While no announcement has been made, it is rumored that F. I. Harkenrider of Estacada is be ing boosted as a candidate for county commissioner, making a- nout a half dozen good men from this part o f the county who are now being considered for this important office, the others being J. W. Reed o f Estacada, John Ely o f Currinsville, Chas. Dun- van and Guy Hunt of Garfield, John C. Miller of Barton, and The Ed Hodgki home in El- wood was the scene o f an odd accident last week. Mr. Hodgki, who is employed on the boat line between Oregon City and Camas, was away, the occupants of the house being Mrs. Hodgki and two year old son. Tuesday morning, Mrs. Hodgki got up and started a fire in the stove, not noticing a disconnec tion in the pipe and returned to bed. A little later she discover ed the house on tire and started on a run for the Jesse Cox home, half a mile away, where she summoned help. On returning, she found the baby boy, whom she had forgot ten during the excitement, stand ing in the room with the roof burning overhead.
