Pete did do just a little bit of modest bragging the other day, after hearing o f some o f the ex ploits o f rival cars on the snow banked roads between Estacada and Portland. Pete and his Maxwell came out from Portland Sunday night and near Gresham overtook an E. M. F. car stuck in a snow drift. Now, this is according to Pete, but Pete says he merely drew up behind the unfortunate car, helped move it out o f the way, then knocked that drift in to the adjoining field with his | Maxwell, leaving a clear right of j way for all following machines. I ----------- | Calavan Visits Estacada County School Superintendent, J. E. Calavan, who has announc- j ed his candidacy for the position j which he now holds, was an Es- ' tacada visitor last Saturday, be- |ing accompanied by C o u n t y ; School Supervisor, Vetter. The men spent the day at the Estacada school house, where a county teachers’ institute was conducted. Among those pre sent were teachers from various points in the county and many ! high schools girls, who are tak ing the teachers’ training course. Library Fund Increased $50. As a result o f the amateur piay rendered Saturday evening, by the local dramatic talent, a total of $68.05 was taken in by the Li brary Committee o f the C. I. C., from which, after deducting ex penses, a net profit o f about $50 was left. T h e play, entitled ‘ ‘Three Hats” was a hummer from the rise o f t h e curtain until the grand finale. The Boner Theatre was packed to its capacity, with an audience made up o f residents o f Estacada and all nearby sec tions.. Space will not allow o f a de tailed description o f the play and the worthy acting o f the parti cipants, but the result showed that many hours o f patient work and study had been given to the work. Those taking part were Mrs. Madaleine Wright, Mrs. Annie K. Morton, the Misses Roberta and Elizabeth Reid, Dave Esch- leman, Irwin Wright, Tom Mor ton, Harley Trowbridge a n d Harry Reid. Much credit is due the mem bers o f the Bronson orchestra, who added much to the pleasure o f the evening with their music al selections and to Mr. Harry Williams o f Portland, who ren dered several delightful vocal pieces during the intermissions. Have you thrown out a supply o f feed for the pheasants and quail lately? Dont forget it, if you wish to have the birds live through this cold spell. Two Varmints Less One would naturally suppose that Ernest H offm eisterof Eagle Creek, after having suffered the loss o f an arm, as the result o f a hunting accident last fall, would refrain from further intercourse with firearms and a couple of wild cats in the neighborhood, supposed so too. Last week, Ernest and his un cle Dave, with their two hounds, treed a couple o f bob-cats, both o f which were shot by Ernest. Trowbridge o f Es tacada entertained a number of ladies Thursday afternoon, in honor of her guest Mrs. Herman Ross of Seattle, who is leaving soon for San Diego.
