For Good Roads
To the editor:-
Several parties have already
been spoken of as candidates
for the office of county commis
sioner. No doubt they are all
good men, but do they know any
thing about how a good road
should be built? I dont think a
man is competent for a county
commissioner, unless he is able
to build a first class road himself.
He should know a good piece of
road when he sees it. I think
we ought to select for our next
commissioner, one of the best
road builders we have in the
county, one that has proven
what he can do, then he can as
sist the supervisors in their road
building and be a great saving to
the tax payers.
It should not make any differ
ence to us, where the commis
sioner resides or what political
party he belongs to as long as he
gives us a square deal. I think
if we were more careful in select
ing our county court and super
visors, we could have better
roads for less money. I am not
condeming the court or super
visors, they have probably done
the best they knew how. We
should understand that road
building is no small undertaking.
When roads are not properly
made and have to be made over
in a short time, it is only a waste
‘.¡of money. X -

- .
Such a practical road builder
as Guy T. Hunt of Garfield or
Albert Kitching of Currinsville,
should represent Eastern Clacka
mas County in the county court.

Masons Pay Last Tribute
Saturday noon, at the grave in
Mt. Scott Cemetery near Lents,
the Estacada Masonic Lodge con
ducted the burial and paid a final
tribute to the late W. A. Wash
of Estacada, who passed away
December 8th.
Services were held at the fam
ily home Friday afternoon, with
Rev. C. F. Aue of Springwater
officiating. These services, sim
ple and impressive, included sev
eral beautiful musical selections,
rendered by Rev. and Mrs. C. F.
Aue and Mrs. C. W. Devore,
with Mrs. H. V. Adix as accom
panist.
A privately chartered car, on
which the casket was carried,
made the trip from Estacada to
Lents Junction and return, a-
mong the passengers being the
immediate f a m i l y , relatives,
friends and a large delegation
f r o m t h e Estacada Masonic
Lodge.
The Masonic services at the in
terment were impressively beau
tiful, a fit tribute to the clean life
and good citizenship of the de
ceased.
Club To Install Organ
At last week’s meeting of the
George Commercial & Social Club,
it was voted to assess each mem
ber the sum of 50c, the proceeds
to go towards the purchase of an
organ for the club house.
It was decided to hold an invi
tation dance on New Years Eve,
invitations to which will probab
ly be in great demand.
Otto Jannsen was elected to
act as the club reporter, whose
duties shall consist of properly
handling the publicty and mat
ters pertaining to the club and
its activities, for use in the news
papers.
