More Autos For The Parade Owen Smith of Estacada and Ed Folsom of Springwater last week purchased Dodge cars, through the agency of J. R. Mor row of Estacada. These ma chines will undoubtedly join in the 4th of July parade in Esta cada, which now promises to take half an hour to pass a given point. Buyer Lucke hopes to be able to make a carload shipment of livestock from the Estacada stock yards within a short time and if you have hogs, cattle or sheep for sale, advise the Progress office, for as soon as a sufficient num ber are in view, the buying will begin. C. I. C. Takes Vacation At last Saturday’s meeting of the Estacada Civic Improvement Club, it was voted to suspend further meetings until fall. The next meeting will occur the sec- ond Saturday in September. M ayor Entertains Council On last Saturday, retiring Mayor H. V. Adix of Estacada entertained his brother council- men and city officers to a dinner and theatre party in Portland. The party comprised council- men, Wagner, Pyle, Byers, Sparks and Smith, Marshal Ames and the nost. Dr. Adix. After doing full justice to and completely depleting the food supply of the Imperial Hotel, the party enjoyed a performance at the Empress theatre, returning to Estacada during the small hours of the morning. The trip was made in the cars of C. W. Devore and the mayor. Dog Killing Ends in Court Have You Stock For Sale? B aseball N ew s Speed For Route Number I Owing to the new automobile delivery, all mail boxes must be erected and placed in an easily ac cessible spot. It is contrary to the regulations to attach same to telephone poles or fences. The new auto service will begin June 29th-; with the new mail schedule applied for on Route 1, the mail will leave Estacada at 7:45 A.M. and arrive at 11 A.M. Signed A. Demoy, carrier R. F. D. Negotiations are also under way to dissolve the Cary Mercantile Co. The former corporation will be succeeded by the partnership of its present manager, Ed \llen, and W. Sampson of Estacada. Soda W ater A. Demoy of the Estacada post al department is the latest Ford enthusiast, having purchased the 1914 model car, formerly owned by R. H. Currin of Currrinsville. A few months ago, the delivery on rural route number 1 was covered by one hor^e and a cart, later followed by. the installation of two donkeys, now by four cyl inders and indications point to wards the adoption of a GO h. p. aeroplane for 1916. A crowd of residents from the Eagle Creek and Barton districts were in Estacada last Saturday afternoon, where they witnessed the justice court hearing, in the case of the State of Oregon vs Carl Young of Eagle Creek. The to nplaining witness P. Douglass of Eagle Creek, repre sented by his counsel E. W. Bart lett of Estacada, is suing the de fendant Carl Young for the al leged shooting and killing of a hound dog, which occurred on the premises of the defendant’s brother, during the pursuit of a coyote by the dog. The defendant was represented by David E. Lofgren of Portland. Justice Devore decided that the case should be brought before the grand jury at their next ses sion. M any C ow s 111 A serious epidemic of “ bloody | murrain” as it is technically call ed, is current among many cows in this part of the county. Al ready several cows, including two belonging to Ceo. Armstrong of Garfield, one to F. J. Ilarken- rider and one to Mrs. Matt Pat terson of Estacada, have died. This disease is supposed to be caused by a parasite which in fests green feed after a prolong ed rainy spell and is taken into the stomach of the cow, causing i a fatal lorm of dysentery.
