Judge Campbell Acts Wisely Calavan Plans For Juvenile Displays Pay Tribute To Newlyweds The monster barn dance, held last Friday evening, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. 'A rchie Yocum of Garfield, in the Schultz barn, brought out a crowd of about a hundred friends and neighbors. The roadway and barn yard of the “ Dingy Dump’ ’ looked like the parking o f an automobile race, with a liberal sprinkling o f horses and rigs. A couple o f minor accidents came near marring the festivi ties. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Yocum and baby while enroute from Es- taeada had their buggy overturn ed by the horse shying at a pass ing motorcycle, but luckily no damage was done. Later, Phil Standish and a young lady nar rowly missed being hurt, when his horse took fright at a ma chine in the barn yard anil wheel ed with the result o f both shafts being broken. The dancers started in at the first sound o f the violin and put ti e barn to a strong test by keep ing up a constant vibration o f the structure for four hours. The music, as furnished by Neil Bronson and Mrs. Bourbonia was excellent and added much to the success o f the affair. A fter a liberal serving of ice cream and cake and soon after midnight the party broke up, a f ter wishing the bride and groom all kinds o f success. Matt Jagmin o f Elwood, who was indicted on a charge o f our- glary by the grand jury, entered a plea o f guilty in the circuit court last week. Judge Campbell sentenced him to a term of from two to five years and then parolled him on the con dition that he pay the costs of the case, amounting to $33.45; that he refrain from taking a drink o f liquor for the next five years and that he report to the sheriff once each thirty days. The above is a wise and lenient decision on the part o f Judge Campbell and is in keeping with the highest type o f judicial wis- dom; for Jagmin, while guilty of burglary is not and never was a criminal, but merely a farmer boy who went wrong temporarily. A sentence to the penitentiary, if served by Jagmin would have brought him in contact with real criminals and would undoubtedly have ended by his becoming one himself, with its attendant hatred o f the laws o f society. As it is, Jagmin will return home and can not help but be a better and wis er man, thanks to the genorosity and faith o f Judge Campbell.
