BETTER PROGRESS FOR 1815
The Management Wishes
You A Happy New Year.
At this time, we wish to thank
the many subscribers, advertisers
and correspondents for their sup
port o f the Estacada Progress in
the past and hope to merit a con
tinuance o f their good will.
If there has been an improve
ment in the Progress in the past
six months, it has been as much
due to the support o f the public
as to the energies o f the pub
lisher.
It is our intention during 1915
to issue a better weekly paper
than in the past The Progress
will try to print all o f the news
from all o f the sections, stand
for the best interests o f the com
munity, foster and work for all
local developments and generally
help to make Eastern Clackamas
County the best spot in the state
to live in.
We hope to be able to enlarge
the paper and to give the sub
scriber more and better reading
matter. We are arranging to re
print the best o f articles dealing
with the various phases o f agri
culture, poultry, stock raising
and kindred subjects.
We shall aim to chronicle on a
larger scale, the social, religious
and fraternal doings o f this sec
tion and to keep the readers post
ed on all vital county news.
We especially wish to thank
the correspondents, who have
furnished us with the weekly do
ings o f the various communities.
The regu.ar correspondents are
Mrs. H B Gibson o f Eagle Creek,
Miss Echo Githens o f Alspaugh,
Mrs. M. L. Sevier o f Viola, Miss
Caroline Weiderhold o f Bissell,
the Misses Flora Johnson and
Gladys Joyner o f George, Miss
Viola DeShazer o f Firwood, Mrs.
Della Vallen o f El wood, E. S.
Wooster, Rev. Aue and Earl Kil
gore c f Springwater, Mrs. E. E.
Saling o f Currinsville, Mrs S. J.
Devine o f Barton, Mrs. A. 0 .
Whitcomb, Mrs. H. A. LaBarre,
Mrs. A. W. Botkin and K. C.
Deming o f Garfield
These correspondents have
helped to make the Progress a
better and more readable paper
and aside from these meager
thanks, there has been no other
reward.
If any news has occured in your
district which has not appeared
in the Progress, it was not an in
tentional omission on the part of
the correspondent or the Prog
ress, for we wish to chronicle all
o f the news each week. If you
know o f any news in your neigh
borhood, notify either your cor
respondent or the Progress, send
us the data and we will do the
rest.
The Progress would like to
have a regular correspondent at
Cazadero, and Dodge and will
furnish the stationery, postage,
and a free subscription to some
public spirited citizen, who will
send in the items.
ESTACADA. OREGON. TH URSDAY,
We wish suggestions from sub
scribers as to how we can im
prove the paper.
There is one way that the read
ers can help their home paper,
and that is by patronizing the
local advertisers. It is the ad
vertiser who makes it possible
for any community to buy a
newspaper for less than ten times
the present subscription rates and
being hard headed business men,
they must get results from then-
advertising or they naturally will
not support the publication.
When you buy goods of an ad
vertiser, dont be afraid to tell
him that you saw his adve'tise-
ment in the Estacada Progress,
for it helps him and it greatly
benefits the publisher.

YEAR
OR. HAVILAND DIES
Estacada Physician Succumbs
To Pneumonia
At eight o ’clock this morning,
Dr. W. K. Haviland o f Estacada
died, after a week’ s struggle
against a severe attack o f pneu
monia.
Up to a week ago the doctor
was around and attending to his
work, although he had been suf
fering from a bad cold for sever
al weeks. During the past cold
spell, there was so much illness
that he felt he could not atford
to give up and take care o f him
self, until finally forced to.
The doctor’s wife and his broth
er, John Haviland, were with
him when he passed away.
Everything possible was done
for the stricken man, with Dr.
Bell o f Portland in charge and
two trained nurses iri constant
attendance.
The doctor was in his 43rd
year, and is survived by his wife,
one son, his brother, John Havi
land of Portland, a sister, Mrs.
H. E. Adams and his father,
Major W. K. Haviland o f Denver,
Colo.
Interment will be at Oregon
City, Saturday at 11 o ’ clock.
The death o f Dr. Haviland will
be a great loss to the city o f Esta
cada, for he was well beloved by
hosts o f friends and his cheerful
smile and knowledge o f medicine
had helped hundreds o f the local
people to health again.
The doctor gave up his life for
his friends, in the truest sense o f
the word, for he sacrificed his
own health, because duty called
him to the bedside o f others in
affliction.
His many friends, the people
o f Estacada and the surrounding
country and the Progress, join
in expressing their most heart
felt sympathy to the loved ones,
in this great bereavement.
