"Where?” School Industrial Clubs Making Great Progress S alem —Although the work of o r ganizing industrial clubs in the public schools has been in progress only a short tim e, S ta te Superintendent of Public Instruction Churchill announces th a t the results are fa r b e tte r than had been expected. He said th a t 4363 pupils had been enrolled by clubs and th a t applications for m em bership were being received a t a rate o f 150 a day. Portland’s Stockyard New Railway Line Taps Prices Go Way Up Rich Farming District P o rtlan d —T here has been a falling off in receipts of livestock a t the P o rt land U nion stockyards, and as a con sequence prices of all classes of stock are advancing. Fancy steers sold by the carload a t N orth Portland this week a t $8.10 and $8.25 a hundred w eight, th e highest prices th a t have prevailed since early last Septem ber. N ot since June, 1913, have sheep and lam b prices been as high as a t present. Ewes are selling a t the yards a t $5, and w ethers a t $6, while the best unshorn lambs are w orth $7 a hundredw eight. Hog priceB also are clim bing up 8gain, the m ark et show ing a gain of 20 cents over last w eek’s quotations. The best sw ine are bringing $8 85. H igher prices than this, however, have been realized this year. U nder term s of a m ortgage filed at Oregon C ity the road can be bonded for $3,000,000, but this e n tire issue will not be sold.
