F. M. Gill and wife will leave
this week for Dufer, Oregon, where
Mr. Gill will engage in farming on
a large scale. Mr. Giil served this
county as one of its representatives
in the state legislature the past two
years and was instrumental iu se
curing the passage on a number of
laws of a progressive nature.
Fruit districts of the state might
take a tip from Hood River bee
keepers, who have asked that or-
chardists do not spray their trees
during the time the blossoms are
fully opeu. This results in killing
large numbers of bees, which are
the most valuable helpers the or-
chardists have. Their aid is in
valuable iu spreading pollen from
tree to tree.
Word has already been sent out
from the headquartes of the Oregon
Development League urging that all
sections of the state start early to
arrange for exhibits at the Eastern
land shows next Fall. It is point
ed out it is not too soon to start the
work of judicious planting of crops,
with exhibits in miud, so that the
best products may be sent away iu
small quantities for this purpose
A recent example of the effective
ness of this work has just come to
light. Having become interested
in the Clackamas County exhibit at
the Minneapolis Land Show, six
families of Minueapolis sent a man
to Clackamas County to pick out
suitable locations where they might
settle.
Actual demonstration of
crops grown ou Western lands is
the best possible argument for im
migration.

TO RECALL COUNTY OFFICIALS There are ROYAL

According to word received from
Oregon City, a stormy session was
held at that city last Saturday bv a
number of tax payers of the county
and a recall has been started
against Judge Beat .y aud commis
sioners Mattooa and Blair. The
charges are mishandling of county
money. The committee appointed
at a mass meeting held at the coun
ty seat a few weeks ago has been
collecting evidence aud brought iu
a report charging that the County
Board had been careless with the
handling of county affairs, had con
ducted the county business in a
mysterious secret manner and had
given out priveleges to corpora
tions without the taxpayers being
aware of the fact. The report was
accepted as correct and the follow
ing resolutions adopted.
"Whereas, the report of our com
mittee shows that our present coun
ty government has handled the
affairs of Clackamas countv, Ore
gon, in a careless, extravagant aud
unbusiness like mnnner."
’ "Therefore, be it resolvtd that
we, legal voters and taxpayers of
Clackamas county, condemn the
actions of the county court, aud
that we take legal steps to remedy
same and proceed at ouce with our
recall."
The resolution carried a vote of
thanks for those who had support
ed the fight and also for the invest
igating committee.

CIVIC IMPROVEMENT CLUB
CONCERT or Gents Furnishings.
The concert Saturday evening in
the Family Theatre under the
auspices of the Civic Improvement
cluh. was a decided success,
although the inclement weather no
doubt kept many from attending.
The stage was prettily decorated
with dogwood blossoms and the
lady ushers did their part very
giacefully, from escorting the peo
ple to their seats to repremanding
obstreperous hoys in the gallery
and quieting crying babies.
Talent from Vancouver, Port
land and Springwater furnished the
entertainment which seemed to be
very much
appreciated.
Miss
Bartholomew of Portland, opened
the program with a piano solo by
Liszt and the applause at the con
clusion ot the number only showed
that she was a special favorite with
the large audience. The rest of
the program consisted mostly of
vocal music and readiugs and were
well received. Mr. and Mrs. Aue
furnished some excellent violin
duets which captivated the audience
and they gracefully responded to
numerous encores.
The proceeds of the entertain
ment are to be used to improve the
streets, a task which the ladies
have undertaken and when the
women engage in such an under
taking the project is sure to be
carried out.
The entertainment
Saturday
■ light is only a beginning ot the
club's plans to raise money to carry
out their purpose of making Esta
cada more attractive and beautiful.
The proceeds were $42 00.
