Sheriff Mass, who collects taxes, admits the error and promised to rectify it. This condition was revealed at a meeting of the board of education, Monday evening. Mrs. Sarah Bates, the clerk, explained to the board that she had called at the county treasurer’s office at Oregon City and was told that the district had $432.42 on deposit. Astound ed by the news, she protested and went to see the sheriff, where the same condition was shown. The sheriff, after learning her name and address, said he would investigate. Iu a short time he notified her he had found an error had been made. ESTACADA STATE BANK CAPITAL • m » • » I 'M ' $25,000 |n|i »♦ »♦ ■ «'■ I He F in d . O n e E rror. ESTACADA FURNITURE CO. District 105 had been paid $1,300 belonging to the Estacada district, he said, but he believed it was still at the bank and he would have it transferred. Later, this was done, he said. Mrs. Bates was still insistent and the sheriff told her he bad collected some not vet turned in and there were some delinquencies. He promised to send her a statement soon. At the board meeting Member Belfils stated he believed the district was about $300 short in the special fund a year ago. He figured out the special tax for this year at 12 mills on a valuation of $989 407 and said there should be, including the $1,300, about $3,800, instead of the $432 originally reported. About $7,640 has been drawn. It was decided to await the sheriff's statement and then, if the district has not received credit for what is its’ due. Member J. W. Reed said he would make a motion to hire au expert and have the books gone over for two or three years. W . D . and L. M.
